Synthesis of beta-benzo[b]thienyldehydrophenylalanine derivatives by one pot palladium-catalyzed borylation and Suzuki coupling (BSC) and metal-assisted intramolecular cyclization: studies of fluorescence and antimicrobial activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Palladium-catalyzed borylation and Suzuki coupling (BSC) in a one pot procedure was successfully applied to the synthesis of several beta-substituted dehydrophenylalanines in the benzo[b]thiophene series maintaining the stereochemistry of the starting ...

Photocatalytic Vanadium‐Mediated Amination of Benzene With Hydroxylamine

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Photochemical activation of N‐phenylphenothiazine (PPT) enables a selective direct benzene amination with hydroxylamine in the presence of various vanadium catalysts under mild reaction conditions. Spectroscopic and kinetic analyses identify a key vanadium(IV)‐hydroxylamine intermediate, elucidate the crucial roles of the acidic medium, the ...

Mechanochemical Sequential Deoxygenative Cross-Coupling Reactions of Phenols Under Ruthenium-Nickel Catalysis

open access: yesMolecules
Herein, we report the first mechanochemical strategy for the Ru-catalyzed deoxygenative borylation of free phenols via C–O bond cleavage. This Ru-catalyzed phenolic borylation approach has been successfully extended to the Suzuki–Miyaura-type cross ...

A Biocatalytic Platform for Synthesis of Chiral α-Trifluoromethylated Organoborons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
There are few biocatalytic transformations that produce fluorine-containing molecules prevalent in modern pharmaceuticals. To expand the scope of biocatalysis for organofluorine synthesis, we have developed an enzymatic platform for highly ...

Accessing Sn≥2 States of a TADF Emitter by Femtosecond NIR Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The depicted thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitter was studied by femtosecond near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. A prominent NIR transition was shown to be strongly solvent‐dependent, with implication for intersystem crossing in the compound.

Total Synthesis of the Spirocyclic Bis‐Indole Alkaloid (−)‐Owerreine via a [4+2] Annulation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 17, 20 April 2026.
The total synthesis of the bis‐indole alkaloid (−)‐owerreine has been accomplished by a diastereoselective [4+2] annulation between an enamine and an α,β−unsaturated indolenine precursor to form the 3‐spirocyclic tetrahydropyridine linkage of the natural product. DFT calculations allow an understanding of the mechanism of the key annulation.

Photoinduced Solution‐Stable Radicals via Intramolecular Charge Separation From anti‐Kasha Emissive BN‐Azepines

open access: yesElectron, EarlyView.
A series of BN‐azepines with a twisted heptagonal B–N donor–acceptor framework was synthesized, enabling stable photoinduced radicals in solution. Upon photoexcitation, charge separation between the triarylamine donor and boron acceptor yields a longer‐lived triplet state, which can generate a nitrogen radical cation through electron transfer.

Enantioselective Cu(I)-catalyzed borylative cyclization of enone-tethered cyclohexadienones and mechanistic insights

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Rapidly building molecular structures with both elements of complexity and flexibility is a key goal of organic synthesis. Here the authors show a tandem copper-catalyzed β-borylation/Michael addition on prochiral enone-tethered 2,5-cyclohexadienones, to
