Topical Boswellic acids for treatment of photoaged skin

Dermatologic Therapy, 2010
Boswellic acids (BAs) are pentacyclic triterpenes extracted from the gum resins of the tropical tree Boswellia serrata. They are orally administered in traditional Indian medicine for the treatment of several inflammatory disease and cancer because of their anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities as well as stimulatory effects on fibroblasts.

Synthesis of δ-boswellic acid

Phytochemistry, 1969
Abstract The synthesis of δ-boswellic acid from α- or β-boswellic acid is reported. It is not identical with γ-boswellic acid.

Determination of 11-keto-boswellic acid in human plasma

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2002
A sensitive, specific, accurate, fast and reproducible GC/MS-method for the quantitative determination of 11-keto-boswellic acid in human plasma using 18alpha-glycyrrhetinic acid as the internal standard was developed and validated. 11-Keto-boswellic acid and the internal standard were separated from acidified plasma by liquid/liquid extraction.

Boswellic Acids and Their Role in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases

2016
Boswellic acids, which are pentacyclic triterpenes belong to the active pharmacological compounds of the oleogum resin of different Boswellia species. In the resin, more than 12 different boswellic acids have been identified but only KBA and AKBA received significant pharmacological interest. Biological Activity: In an extract of the resin of Boswellia

Synthesis and pharmacokinetic profile of rhein- boswellic acid conjugate

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2012
Rhein, an active metabolite of diacerein, down-regulates the gene-expression and production of pro-matrix metalloproteinases and up-regulates the tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 production. The therapeutic effects of diacerein on osteoarthritis are, at least in part, due to the chondroprotective effect of rhein.

Pharmacokinetic study of 11-Keto β-Boswellic Acid

Phytomedicine, 2004
Boswellia serrata has been used in traditional medicine for treatment of inflammatory diseases since antiquity. However human kinetic studies are lacking for this. Hence to better elucidate its effects in humans and determine its optimal dosing, this study was planned.Twelve healthy adult men volunteers were given capsule Wok Vel containing 333 mg of ...

Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of boswellic acid analogues

Phytochemistry Letters, 2016
Abstract Fifteen stereoisomers of boswellic acid analogues bearing 2-OH, 24-OH, 3-keto or 2-OH, 3-OH, 24-OH groups were synthesised and their structures were confirmed using 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, 2D NMR and HRMS. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds toward three human tumor cell lines, K562, PC3 and A549, were evaluated.

Crystallographic Analysis of Acetyl β -boswellic acid

Crystal Research and Technology, 2001
The crystal structure of the title compound (3α-acetoxy-urs-12-en-24-oic acid, C 32 H 50 O 4 ) has been determined by X-ray crystallographic techniques. The compound crystallizes into orthorhombic space group P2 1 2 1 2 with unit cell parameters: a = 12.773(2), b=16.381(4), c=27.929(7)A. The structure has been solved by direct methods and refined to R =

Bioavailability of boswellic acids: in vitro/in vivo correlation

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal, 2007
Extract of Boswellia sacra (incense tree), the main active components of which are boswellic acids, is used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Boswellic acids suppress leukotriene biosynthesis in neutrophilic granulocytes by non-redox, noncompetitive inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase.
