Onychomycosis due to Ulocladium botrytis

SummaryA case of disto‐lateral onychomycosis of the third toe of the right foot of a 45‐year‐old man is reported. The agent of infection was Ulocladium botrytis, a mycete not hitherto reported to infect humans. The patient underwent mycological examination consisting of direct microscope observation and culture of pathological material.

Plant Hosts of Botrytis spp.

A list of known plant species that serve as hosts of Botrytis spp. is presented. Botrytis species are reported to attack a total of 596 genera of vascular plants (tracheophytes), representing over 1400 plant species, although the host range is most probably much wider since there are limited reports of diseases on wild plants. Abstract. A number of Botrytis species are pathogens of bulb crops. Botrytis squamosa (teleomorph= Botrytotinia squamosa) causal agent of botrytis leaf blight and B. allii the causal agent of botrytis neck rot are two of the most important fungal diseases of onion.

FIRST REPORT OF BOTRYTIS BLIGHT CAUSED BY BOTRYTIS CINEREA ON HELICHRYSUM BRACTEATUM IN ITALY

In the winter 2016, a leaf and stem blight was observed on 5-month-old plants of Helichrysum bracteatum growing in a farm located in Albenga (Savona province, northern Italy). Chlorosis and browning of leaves, stems and inflorescences were followed by necrosis and affected tissues wilted and desiccated. Most affected plants eventually died.

FIRST REPORT OF BOTRYTIS BLIGHT CAUSED BY BOTRYTIS CINEREA ON RUDBECKIA HIRTA IN ITALY

In February 2014, symptoms of a previously unknown blight were observed in plants of Rudbeckia hirta grown in an experimental glasshouse of Agroinnova at Grugliasco (Piedmont, northern Italy). Necrotic areas appeared on leaves and stems that rotted and desiccated. A soft, grey mycelium developed on affected tissues.
