Analysis of arching around shallow tunnels using the boundary element approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper describes a study of the effect of soil arching around shallow tunnels using the Boundary Element Method. Due to the different stiffnesses of the soil and the underground structure, then, under surface loading, the differential displacements ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

The Global Element Method for Three- Dimensional Potential Problems

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper presents the Global Element Method (GEM) for solving three-dimensional potential problems. Compared to traditional boundary element methods, this approach offers significant advantages.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Sensitivity analysis of non-uniform rational B-splines–based finite element/boundary element coupling in structural-acoustic design

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
For the purpose of modeling the acoustic fluid-structure interaction using direct differentiation method and conducting a structural-acoustic sensitivity analysis, a coupling approach based on the finite element method and the fast multipole boundary ...

Application of the Green Element Method to Chemical Engineering Problems

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Engineering Sciences, 2004
The novel Green element method (GEM), which applies the singular boundary integral theory (a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind) on each element at a time, is herein implemented on chemical engineering problems.

Symmetric Galerkin boundary element method. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
This review concerns a methodology for solving numerically, to engineering purposes, boundary and initial-boundary value roblems by a peculiar approach characterized by the following features: the continuous formulation is centered on integral equations ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Helical swimming in Stokes flow using a novel boundary-element method

open access: yes, 2013
We apply the boundary-element method to Stokes flows with helical symmetry, such as the flow driven by an immersed rotating helical flagellum. We show that the two-dimensional boundary integral method can be reduced to one dimension using the helical ...
