Classical and Quantum Lagrangian Field Theories with Boundary [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Proceedings of the Corfu Summer Institute 2011 — PoS(CORFU2011), 2012
This note gives an introduction to Lagrangian field theories in the presence of boundaries. After an overview of the classical aspects, the cohomological formalisms to resolve singularities in the bulk and in the boundary theories (the BV and the BFV formalisms, respectively) are recalled. One of the goals here (and in [arXiv:1201.0290]) is to show how

O(N) models with boundary interactions and their long range generalizations

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We study the critical properties of scalar field theories in d + 1 dimensions with O(N) invariant interactions localized on a d-dimensional boundary. By a combination of large N and epsilon expansions, we provide evidence for the existence of non-trivial

Harvesting correlations from vacuum quantum fields in the presence of a reflecting boundary

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We explore correlations harvesting by two static detectors locally interacting with vacuum massless scalar fields in the presence of an infinite perfectly reflecting boundary.

Operator expansions, layer susceptibility and two-point functions in BCFT

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We show that in boundary CFTs, there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the boundary operator expansion of the two-point correlation function and a power series expansion of the layer susceptibility.

Loop Quantum Gravity's Boundary Maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
In canonical quantum gravity, the presence of spatial boundaries naturally leads to a boundary quantum states, representing quantum boundary conditions for the bulk fields. As a consequence, quantum states of the bulk geometry needs to be upgraded to wave-functions valued in the boundary Hilbert space: the bulk become quantum operator acting on ...

Ground State for the Klein-Gordon field in anti-de Sitter spacetime with dynamical Wentzell boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We consider a real Klein-Gordon field in the Poincar\'e patch of $(d+1)$-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime, PAdS$_{d+1}$, and impose dynamical boundary condition on the asymptotic boundary of PAdS$_{d+1}$ that depend explicitly on the second time derivative of the field at the boundary. These boundary conditions are of generalized Wentzell type.

Bootstrapping boundary-localized interactions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We study conformal boundary conditions for the theory of a single real scalar to investigate whether the known Dirichlet and Neumann conditions are the only possibilities.

Quantum field theories with boundaries and novel instabilities [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2014
Quantum physics on manifolds with boundary brings novel aspects due to boundary conditions. One important feature is the appearance of localised negative eigenmodes for the Laplacian on the boundary. These can potentially lead to instabilities. We consider quantum field theories on such manifolds and interpret these as leading to the onset of phase ...

Supersymmetric graphene on squashed hemisphere

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We compute the partition function of N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 supersymmetric mixed dimensional QED on a squashed hemisphere using localization. Mixed dimensional QED is an abelian gauge theory coupled to charged matter fields at the boundary.
