On Some Bounds for Zeros of Norm-Bounded Polynomials

open access: yesJournal of Symbolic Computation, 1994
Let \(P(M, n)\) denote the set of all irreducible polynomials over \(\mathbb{Z}\) of degree at most \(n\) and of norm at most \(M\) and let \(\mathbb{Z}(M, n)\) denote the set of all zeros of polynomials in \(P(M, n)\). The author defines a sufficiently large region that does not contain any zeros in \(\mathbb{Z}(M, n)\) and is easy to analyze.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Threshold Crossing Models and Bounds on Treatment Effects: A Nonparametric Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper considers the evaluation of the average treatment effect of a binary endogenous regressor on a binary outcome when one imposes a threshold crossing model on both the endogenous regressor and the outcome variable but without imposing parametric

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Bounds in Competing Risks Models and the War on Cancer [PDF]

open access: yes
Competing risks models are fundamentally unidentified. This paper derives bounds for aspects of the underlying distributions under a number of different assumptions. These bounds are then applied to mortality data from the US.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Bounds on functionals of the distribution treatment effects [PDF]

open access: yes
Bounds on the distribution function of the sum of two random variableswith known marginal distributions obtained by Makarov (1981) canbe used to bound the cumulative distribution function (c.d.f.) of individualtreatment effects.

Nonasymptotic bounds on the mean square error for MCMC estimates via renewal techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Nummellin’s split chain construction allows to decompose a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) trajectory into i.i.d. "excursions". Regenerative MCMC algorithms based on this technique use a random number of samples.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Nonparametric Bounds in the Presence of Item Nonresponse, Unfolding Brackets and Anchoring

open access: yes
Household surveys often suffer from nonresponse on variables such as income, savings or wealth.Recent work by Manski shows how bounds on conditional quantiles of the variable of interest can be derived, allowing for any type of nonrandom item nonresponse.
