SUMMARY The objectives of our research were to determine whether bovine pulmonary type-II alveolar epithelial cells could be isolated from bovine lung and maintained in tissue culture and to determine whether isolated bovine type-II alveolar epithelial cells would support productive viral replication of bovine parainfluenza type-3 virus and bovine ...

After aerosolization of a bovine strain of parainfluenza type 3 virus, the pathogenesis of the virus was followed from the trachea to the bronchioalveolar compartments of the lung of colostrum-free calves and of conventionally reared calves during a 5- to 12-day postexposure interval.

Infection of bovine embryonic lung cells with bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 did not induce in vitro, virus-specific, hemadsorption-related adherence of Corynebacterium pyogenes, Haemophilus somnus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus zooepidemicus, Pasteurella haemolytica, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli ...

Aerosol stability of bovine parainfluenza type 3 virus.
Canadian journal of comparative medicine : Revue canadienne de medecine comparee, 1979Aerosols of bovine parainfluenza type 3 virus were generated with a Devilbiss 40 nebulizer from Eagle's minimum essential medium and nasal secretion from a non-infected calf and stored in a rotating drum at temperatures of 6 degrees C or 32 degrees C and relative humidities of 30% or 90%.

Bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 accessory proteins that suppress beta interferon production
Microbes and Infection, 2007The paramyxovirus P gene encodes accessory proteins antagonistic to interferon (IFN). Viral proteins responsible for the IFN antagonism, however, are distinct among paramyxoviruses. Here we determine bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (bPIV3) IFN antagonists that suppress IFN-beta production, and investigate the underlying molecular mechanism.

Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from calves following Parainfluenza Type-3 (PI-3) virus infection and incubated with autologous and non-autologous PI-3 virus-infected muscle cells in a 4 h chromium release assay. Peaks of cytotoxicity, which ranged from 12% to 53% were observed between Days 6 and 9 post infection, with an effector to ...

Sanguinarine inhibits bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 replication through CD97 suppression
Veterinary MicrobiologyBovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (BPIV3) is a major pathogen responsible for bovine respiratory disease syndrome, posing a significant threat to cattle health. Currently, there are no effective antiviral drugs targeting BPIV3 infection. Our previous research identified Cluster of Differentiation 97 (CD97) as a positive regulator of RNA virus ...

Isolation and characterization of bovine parainfluenza type 3 virus from cattle in Kenya.
Bulletin of epizootic diseases of Africa. Bulletin des epizooties en Afrique, 1974All seven isolates recovered from respiratory disease in a herd of cattle were parainfluenza type 3. The increase in HI antibody titres between the acute phase and the convalescent phase of the disease suggested that it was caused by parainfluenza virus.
