Thermal coagulation of bovine serum albumin. [PDF]

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1981
The effects of salts were investigated on thermo-coagulation of bovine serum albumin (BSA). Salts affected the formation of coagulum, and a “minimum” (a col) on the turbidity-pH curve was observed at about pH 7.5. When the time course of turbidity was measured at more acidic pH (6.5) or alkaline pH (9.5), an induction period was observed at the more ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

On the Growth Rate of Tribomaterial in Bovine Serum Lubricated Sliding Contacts

open access: yesLubricants, 2016
Considering total hip arthroplasty, so-called tribolayers (aka tribomaterial), consist of carbonaceous material from the periprosthetic joint fluid or bovine serum mixed with nanometer size metal and oxide wear particles.

Effect of supplement of SCM in culture medium for in vitro development of bovine in vitro fertilized oocytes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2023
Background: The successful production of superior or transgenic offspring from in vitro produced embryos in cattle relies heavily on the quality of blastocyst stage embryos.

Binding of Antibiotics to Bovine and Ovine Serum [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1972
The degree of binding of 37 antibiotics to bovine and ovine serum, after treatment at therapeutic doses, was determined by equilibrium dialysis and ultrafiltration methods. In general, binding values obtained by the two methods were comparable. The extent of binding varied from 0% for cephaloridine and kanamycin to >95% for novobiocin and fusidic ...

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Comparative Analysis of KnockOut™ Serum with Fetal Bovine Serum for the In Vitro Long-Term Culture of Human Limbal Epithelial Cells

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2016
The limbal epithelial cells can be maintained on 3T3 feeder layer with fetal bovine serum supplemented culture medium, and these cells have been used to successfully treat limbal stem cell deficiency.
