Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.

Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

[The otoneurological assessment of radiotherapy-induced brain stem involvement in patients with rhinopharyngeal neoplasms].

open access: yesActa otorhinolaryngologica Italica : organo ufficiale della Societa italiana di otorinolaringologia e chirurgia cervico-facciale, 1992
The authors report a study in which otoneurological tests were employed in order to determine the possibility of radio-induced alterations in the brainstem of patients with a rhinopharyngeal carcinoma, which extended to basicranial structures, who had undergone radiotherapy.

Meloxicam decreases the migration and invasion of CF41.Mg canine mammary carcinoma cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus.Cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression is positively correlated with malignant features in canine mammary carcinomas. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit COX activity and may therefore possess anticancer ...

Self‐Healing and Stretchable Synaptic Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐healing stretchable synaptic transistor (3S‐T) is realized using a p‐PVDF‐HFP‐DBP/PDMS‐MPU‐IU bilayer as gate insulator, where dipole‐dipole interaction enhances polarization to achieve a large memory window. Leveraging its neuronal biomimicry, the synaptic transistor demonstrates electrically compatibility with the biological brain. Furthermore,

Automated Detection of Systematic Off-label Drug Use in Free Text of Electronic Medical Records. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Off-label use of a drug occurs when it is used in a manner that deviates from its FDA label. Studies estimate that 21% of prescriptions are off-label, with only 27% of those uses supported by evidence of safety and efficacy.

Translational Considerations for Injectable Biomaterials and Bioscaffolds to Repair and Regenerate Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...

[Clinical improvement induced by chemotherapy and social rehabilitation in a preterminal case of brain stem neoplasm: the objective and instrumental aspects].

open access: yesLa Pediatria medica e chirurgica : Medical and surgical pediatrics, 1993
A sixteen-years-old boy with a brain-stem neoplasia inducing coma was treated with chemotherapeutic agents. It resulted in dramatic clinical and instrumental improvement; radiologic findings were evaluated, showing decreasing dimension of intracranial mass. Brain-stem auditory evoked potentials were highly sensitive.
