Brake-By-Wire Program

2003
Abstract : Two design iterations for electric calipers and two systems (full brake by wire and hybrid brakes) were developed for use on a ground vehicle. The program demonstrated a fully integrated-rated electric caliper and full brake-by-wire system on a sports utility vehicle (GM Envoy).

Simulation-Based Safety Testing Brake-by-Wire

2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation Workshops (ICSTW), 2017
Mechanical systems in cars are replaced by electronic equivalents. To be authorized for the road, validation that the replacements are at least as good as the old systems is required. For electronic braking systems (brake-by-wire), this goodness translates to safety in terms of maintaining timing constraints.

Brake-by-wire actuator featuring magnetorheological fluid clutch

Sensors and Smart Structures Technologies for Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace Systems 2020, 2020
This paper proposes a new brake-by-wire system for intelligent/unmanned vehicles. Magnetorheological fluid clutch (MRC) with the characteristics of simple structure, fast response and large range of controllable transmission torque is employed for the brake-by-wire system to realize continuous and fast braking force output of the electro-mechanical ...

Braking Status Monitoring For Brake-By-Wire Systems

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Recently, wheel slip controllers with controlling the wheel slip directly have been studied using the brake-by-wire actuator. The wheel slip controller is able to control the braking force more accurately and can be adapted to various different vehicles more easily than the conventional ABS systems.

Position Sensing in Brake-By-Wire Callipers Using Resolvers

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2006
Recent designs for brake-by-wire systems use 'resolvers' to provide accurate and continuous measurements for the absolute position and speed of the rotor of the electric actuators in brake callipers (permanent magnet DC motors). Resolvers are absolute-angle transducers that are integrated with estimator modules called 'angle tracking observer' and ...

Virtual Design of a 42V Brake-by-Wire System

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2003
<div class="htmlview paragraph">X-by-Wire implementations can lower manufacturing costs by reducing packaging problems and assembly costs. It also offers weight reductions combined with new safety features as well as an opportunity and challenge to couple electronic control and mechanical subsystems via mechatronics.
