ABC: A Simple Explicit Congestion Controller for Wireless Networks

open access: yes, 2020
We propose Accel-Brake Control (ABC), a simple and deployable explicit congestion control protocol for network paths with time-varying wireless links. ABC routers mark each packet with an "accelerate" or "brake", which causes senders to slightly increase

Driver Behavior Modeling with Subjective Risk‐Driven Inverse Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A subjective risk‐driven inverse reinforcement learning framework is proposed to model driver decision‐making. It infers drivers' risk perception and risk tolerance from driving data. A learnable risk threshold is used to regulate decisions, enabling interpretable and human‐like driving behavior decisions.

Friction brake cushions acceleration and vibration loads [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Friction brake cushions an object in a vehicle from axially applied vibration and steady-state acceleration forces. The brake incorporates a doubly tapered piston that applies a controlled radial force to friction brake segments bearing against the walls

Institutional Arrangements for the Community Engagement in the Natural Resources Management: Case Study of the Lake Eyre Basin [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents an overview of the formal institutional arrangements for natural resource management (NRM) in the Lake Eyre Basin (LEB) and the role of these arrangements as an enabling environment for community engagement in NRM.

Centrifugal regulator for control of deployment rates of deployable elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
The requirements, design, and performance of a centrifugal regulator aimed at limiting deployment rates of deployable elements are discussed. The overall mechanism is comprised of four distinct functional parts in a machined housing: (1) the centrifugal ...

Multi‐Omic Profiling Reveals Immune Cell Priming Signature Linked to Lupus Prognosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multiorgan disease with widespread immune dysregulation and significant unmet clinical need. Blood‐based gene expression studies have advanced our understanding of SLE pathogenesis but may overlook critical tissue‐specific mechanisms that drive disease heterogeneity and progression.

Intravenous lanadelumab for the treatment of moderately ill COVID‐19 patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Kallikrein‐kinin system (KKS) dysregulation is hypothesized to play a pathogenetic role in COVID‐19‐associated pulmonary oedema. To investigate the efficacy and safety of intravenous lanadelumab, a monoclonal antibody that inhibits plasma kallikrein, in COVID‐19, we conducted a phase 2, open‐label, randomized‐controlled, proof‐of‐concept ...

Targeting neutrophil extracellular traps in metabolic and immune niche: Nanomaterials for diabetes tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The effects of NETs on regeneration of various diabetic tissues, and strategies targeting NETs for diabetes tissue regeneration. In the diabetic environment, NETs undergo complex metabolic and immune reprogramming, leading to dynamic changes in antibacterial and proinflammatory functions, and affecting regeneration of multiple systemic tissues.

A Challenge for the G20: Globally Stipulated Debt Brakes and Transnational Independent Fiscal Supervisory Councils [PDF]

open access: yes
Debt-to-GDP ratios have grown to unprecedented levels in many industrialized economies. This requires disciplined consolidation efforts which are, however, supposed to come now at the wrong time with the economic recovery being fragile.
