Determination of temperature and wear during braking

Wear, 1997
A model of the braking process has been proposed. We have obtained the contact temperature, the value of wear and the sliding speed for general experimental dependencies of the coefficient of friction and that of wear on the temperature. The problem has been reduced to a system of nonlinear integral equations of the Volterra type by means of the ...

Friction and Wear of Carbon Brake Materials

2008
A literature review has been undertaken to establish what information on carbon friction and wear has been generated from past research activities. These past research activities have been summarized, and their results have been compared with subscale dynamometer test results.

A Basic Overview on Brake Disc Wear

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2002
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Wear of brake disc is normally faced with sophisticated experimental methods, a basic overview on the phenomena related to disc wear is presented in this paper. DTV consists in a heterogeneous wear of the disc surface and it is caused by two factors: run-out and the mechanism of disc wear.

Aircraft Braking Induced Tire Wear

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Employing a combined mechanical abrasion and thermochemical degradation model, an overall tire-braking simulation is developed to enable the bounding of potential braking induced tread wear in aircraft tires. The model incorporates the effects of: i) the highly nonlinear tire braking friction-slip behavior; ii) the

Wear Studies on Aircraft Brake Materials

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1978
An investigation of both worn surfaces of friction pads and steel rotors which are being applied in current aircraft brakes has been carried out by employing an x-ray diffraction technique. It consists of the analysis of chemical element distribution in the surface layers. The wear particles were also examined by using the scanning electron microscope.

Brake Noise Analysis with Lining Wear

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2008
<div class="htmlview paragraph">It is well known that lining reduction through wear affects contact pressure profile and noise generation. Due to high complexity in brake noise analysis, many factors were not included in previous analyses. In this paper, a new analysis process is performed by running brake “burnishing” cycles first, followed by ...

Pad Wear Indication for Disc Brakes

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1975
<div class="htmlview paragraph">In regard to disc brakes, it can be advantageous to indicate the wear of the pads by means of a warning device. Such a warning device should fulfill a series of requirements, which will be explained individually.

Effect of pad material and regenerative braking on brake wear emissions

Non-exhaust sources, including brake, tire and road wear, have been identified as a major source of current traffic-related particle emissions [ 1 ]. Brake wear particle characteristics and quantity depend on factors such as vehicle properties, brake material composition and driving characteristics.
