Electromagnetic brake with controllable torque

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part II: Applications and Industry, 1961
MANY LARGE materials handling machines and processing machines require smooth, accurate stopping. In the past, accurate stopping has usually been accomplished by the use of hydraulic brakes. Recently, an electromagnetic brake has been developed to perform the same functions and to overcome some disadvantages of hydraulic brakes, such as the need for ...

Design and analysis of an MR rotary brake for self-regulating braking torques

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2017
This paper presents a novel Magneto-rheological (MR) brake system that can self-regulate the output braking torques. The proposed MR brake can generate a braking torque at a critical rotation speed without an external power source, sensors, or controllers, making it a simple and cost-effective device.

A torque-controllable electromagnetic multiple-disc brake

Tribology International, 1989
Abstract This paper describes a new type of electromagnetic multiple-disc brake for controlling braking torque. The brake consists of a rare-earth permanent magnet, an electromagnet and multiple friction discs. The friction torque is controlled by the electric current in a coil of the electromagnet.

Dynamic Tyre Responses to Brake Torque Variations

Vehicle System Dynamics, 1996
ABSTRACT An in-plane tyre model to study the tyre responses to brake torque variations is presented. This model conceives a rigid ring (representing the tyre tread band) on an elastic foundation (representing the tyre sidewalls). The contact of the ring with the road is governed by a vertical residual stiffness representing the large deformation of the

Analysis of Torque in Magnetorheological Rotary Brake

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
A magnetorheological (MR) rotary brake is a device that transmits torque by the shear stress of the MR fluids. In this paper, Bingham model is used to describe the constitutive characteristics of MR fluids subject to an applied magnetic field. The operational principle of the MR rotary brake is introduced.

Braking torque control using recurrent neural networks

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 2012
The basic problem in the operation of automotive brakes is the unpredictable nature of the tribological processes that occur at the contact of the friction pair. The stochastic nature of the tribological contact of the disc brake is affected differently by the complex interaction between the brake disc and the friction material under different ...

Technique for reducing brake drag torque in the non-braking mode

JSAE Review, 2000
Abstract Brake drag torque under non-braking conditions with the disc rotating freely causes fuel economy to decline and induces disc thickness variation, which gives rise to brake judder. In this study, the effect of the contact condition between the pads and the disc rotor on disc rotor wear was first studied.

An original braking controller with torque sensor

Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Control and Applications CCA-94, 1994
The present evolution of regulated braking systems requires the knowledge and control of dynamic parameters of the vehicle during the braking process. In a classical ABS system, the chassis speed is only known approximately and this is not sufficient to control the slip ratio.

Magnetic flux distribution and braking torque of a grooved eddy current brake

2020 2nd International Conference on Computer and Information Sciences (ICCIS), 2020
Motorcycles generally require an optimal braking system, eddy current brake (ECB) can be used as an alternative to conventional braking systems. Design unipolar axial ECB with an electromagnet used in this research. ECB performance can be influenced by some factor, one of them is changing the form of the surface of a conductor.

Braking torque control of the multi-disc magnetorheological brake based on the brake pedal

Engineering Research Express
Abstract Magnetorheological (MR) transmission technology is an innovation application of the MR effect in the field of engineering transmission. The MR brake with MR fluid as the working medium is a kind of non-contact brake, which has wide application prospects in soft braking systems. The proposed MR braking system uses the MR brake as
