Temperature Distribution of HBC Fuses with Asymmetric Electric Current Ratios Through Fuselinks

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
In many industrial applications high breaking capacity (HBC) fuses are used to protect electrical installations against overcurrents, especially in the power distribution network.

How to Maximize the Capacity of General Quantum Noisy Channels

open access: yes, 2008
A general quantum noisy channel is analyzed, wherein the transmitted qubits may experience symmetry-breaking decoherence, along with memory effects.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Optimally adapted multi-state neural networks trained with noise

open access: yes, 1998
The principle of adaptation in a noisy retrieval environment is extended here to a diluted attractor neural network of Q-state neurons trained with noisy data.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Thick film formation on Li-O2 cathodes – breaking the true capacity barrier

open access: yesScientific Reports
The theoretical energy density of Li-O2 batteries is more than an order of magnitude larger than the current generation of Li-ion batteries. However, their practical performance is far less, in part due to their low true capacities, that is, capacity ...

Study on the Impact of Additional Insulator String Fracture on the Safety Status of Transmission Lines Under Large Ice Loads

open access: yesBuildings
Transmission lines may experience significant ice loads during service, which can cause damage or even destruction to transmission tower components and transmission lines.

Stereo-selective swelling of imprinted cholesteric networks

open access: yes, 2003
Molecular chirality, and the chiral symmetry breaking of resulting macroscopic phases, can be topologically imprinted and manipulated by crosslinking and swelling of polymer networks.

DRAGON: Breaking GPU Memory Capacity Limits with Direct NVM Access

open access: yesSC18: International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, 2018
Heterogeneous computing with accelerators is growing in importance in high performance computing (HPC). Recently, application datasets have expanded beyond the memory capacity of these accelerators, and often beyond the capacity of their hosts. Meanwhile, nonvolatile memory (NVM) storage has emerged as a pervasive component in HPC systems because NVM ...
