A novel solution for hydrogen monitoring in fusion processes: 3D printed BaCe0.6Zr0.3Y0.1O3-α sensors

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
The control of tritium (3H) in liquid-based tritium breeding blankets (TBBs) is one of the key points to assure their correct performance to prove the 3H sufficiency.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Fatigue lifetime prediction and reliability assessment for fusion blankets under pulsed operational loading

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The breeding blanket is a critical component of magnetic confinement fusion reactors. The reliability, availability, maintainability, and inspectability (RAMI) of the blanket has been recognized as a major challenge on the pathway to commercial fusion ...

Accelerating the engineering design of breeder blankets with parametric optimisation and sequential learning

open access: yesFrontiers in Nuclear Engineering
The competing requirements of fusion breeder blankets and the high dimensionality of their design space necessitate a systematic treatment to map the variations in performance against given objective metrics and to understand the operational envelope. In

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Analysis of a segmentation approach to breeder blanket design and the utilisation of FLiBe as a novel neutron reflector

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Tritium production in a fusion reactor is essential for a deuterium-tritium burning plasma source, and designing a lithium-containing breeder blanket is crucial for a closed fuel cycle in an electricity-to-grid power plant.

Exhaust assessment of a European Volumetric Neutron Source (EU-VNS) using SOLPS-ITER

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
EUROfusion considers a volumetric neutron source (EU-VNS) to generate a neutron wall load of about 0.5MW/m2 to qualify tritium breeding blankets early in support of EU-DEMO that mitigates the risk of a late testing for required nuclear technology.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...
