Two diterpene synthases were characterised from the bacterium Chitinophaga pinensis that catalyse the formation of typical coral‐derived compounds including known palmatol and a new conformationally rigid eunicellane diterpene, posing interesting questions on the ecological functions in organisms evolutionary as distant as bacteria and corals.

Variable Growth Across Species and Life Stages in Caribbean Reef Octocorals
Growth rates often measured as linear extension rates can serve as a proxy for organismal performance across environments, yet few estimates of these growth rates exist, and fewer are reported from multi-year monitoring. We studied the effect of species,

New Polyoxygenated Briarane Diterpenoids, Briaexcavatolides O−R, from the Gorgonian Briareum excavatum [PDF]
Four new polyoxygenated briarane-type diterpenoids, briaexcavatolides O−R (1−4), have been isolated from a gorgonian octocoral Briareum excavatum. Their structures were determined using spectroscopic and chemical methods.

Studies of Australian Soft Corals. XLVI. New Diterpenes From a Briareum Species (Anthozoa, Octocorallia, Gorgonacea) [PDF]
The structures and relative stereochemistry of nine new briaran -based diterpenes from a Briareum species have been deduced from 2-D n.m.r. experiments at high field, and nuclear Overhauser effect experiments. The new compounds are (1R*2R*,3R*,5Z,7S*,

Studies of Australian Soft Corals. XLVII. New Halogenated Briaran Diterpenes From a Briareum Species (Octocorallia, Gorgonacea) [PDF]
Two new halogenated briaran diterpenes (3) and (4) are reported from a Briareumspecies of soft corals from waters off Darwin, N.T. Their structures were determined by high-field n.m.r.
