Azobenzene-Bridged Expanded “Texas-sized” Box: A Dual-Responsive Receptor for Aryl Dianion Encapsulation

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2019
We report an expanded "Texas-sized" molecular box (AzoTxSB) that incorporates photoresponsive azobenzene bridging subunits and anion recognition motifs. The shape of this box can be switched through light induced E ↔ Z photoisomerization of the constituent azobenzenes.

Magnetic‐induced isomerization of paramagnetic bridged azobenzene derivatives with conjugated alkyl chains

open access: yesSmartMat
AbstractInducing a reversible structural transformation in organic photochromophores under the effect of a magnetic field is challenging owing to their poor magnetic properties. Compared with common azobenzene materials, bridged azobenzene materials exhibit a considerable potential for rapid trans‐cis isomerization induced by an external magnetic field

catena-Poly[[diaquazinc(II)]-μ-trans-4,4′-diazenediyldibenzoato-κ4O,O′:O′′,O′′′]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2009
The title compound, [Zn(C14H8N2O4)(H2O)2]n, consists of zigzag chains of Zn atoms bridged by azobenzene-4,4′-dicarboxylate ligands. The ZnII atom, lying on a twofold rotation axis, is coordinated by four O atoms from the carboxylate groups and ...

Photoswitching in azo dyes bearing thienylpyrrole and benzothiozole heterocyclic systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Dedicated to the Centenary of the Portuguese Chemical SocietyVisible light promotes the conversion of the E-isomer of benzothiazol-2-yl and benzothiazol-6-yl diazenes to the thermal unstable Z-isomer that reverts in few seconds to the initial form.

Synthesis of mono-functionalized S-diazocines via intramolecular Baeyer–Mills reactions

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
Herein we report a reliable method to synthesize mono-functionalized S-diazocines in reproducible yields via intramolecular Baeyer–Mills reactions. Diazocines exhibit excellent photoswitchable properties. As opposed to azobenzenes they are more stable in
