Vertical Bridgman growth of sapphire-Seed crystal shapes and seeding characteristics

open access: yes, 2014
The growth of sapphire by the traditional vertical Bridgman (VB) method was studied by using various shapes of seed crystals and tungsten (W) crucibles shaped to match the seeds. Approximately 2-in.

The plane-to-cellular-to-dendrite transition of the shape of the crystallization front during the crystallization of Al–Cu alloys [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2006
The evolution of the crystallization front from a planar to a dendritic one as a function of the GL/(Rc0) parameter was investigated during the crystallization of Al–Cu alloys by the vertical Bridgman method.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Element Segregation and Electrical Properties of PMN-32PT Grown Using the Bridgman Method

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
A single crystal with nominal composition Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-32PbTiO3 (PMN-32PT) was grown by the Bridgman technique. Crystal orientation was determined using the rotating orientation X-ray diffraction (RO-XRD).

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Influence of Impurities on the Radiation Response of the TlBr Semiconductor Crystal

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
Two commercially available TlBr salts were used as the raw material for crystal growths to be used as radiation detectors. Previously, TlBr salts were purified once, twice, and three times by the repeated Bridgman method.

Thermal diffusivity of single crystal Bi0.9Sb0.1 [PDF]

open access: yesScience of Sintering, 2010
A single crystal Bi0.9Sb0.1 ingot was synthesized using the Bridgman technique. Thermal diffusivity and electronic transport properties of single crystal cleaved plates (00l) were determined from PA photoacoustic phase and amplitude spectra obtained ...

Room‐Temperature Skyrmionic Synapse in 2D Ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2 Operating via Collective Spin Texture Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a neuromorphic synapse in 2D Fe3GaTe2 flakes. The device operates via a current‐driven transformation from a skyrmion‐lattice to a stripe‐domain state, yielding a linear anomalous Hall resistance response with a tunable slope to enable multiply‐accumulate operations. Simulations confirm its viability in artificial neural networks.

Exploring kink strengthening in WZ21 magnesium alloy via slow solidification and extrusion

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
The Mg-Y-Zn magnesium alloy system is known for the presence of Long-Period Stacking Ordered (LPSO) phases that improves strength and ductility with minimal amounts of alloying elements.

Spectroscopic Properties of Pb2+-Doped BaF2 Crystals

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
Various concentrations of PbF2-doped BaF2 crystals were grown by the Bridgman method using a shaped graphite heater. The room temperature optical absorption spectra showed two UV absorption bands (labeled A and D), characteristic of the Pb2+ ions.
