Non-contact and label-free biomechanical imaging: Stimulated Brillouin microscopy and beyond

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
Brillouin microscopy based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering has emerged as a unique elastography technique because of its merit of non-contact, label-free, and high-resolution mechanical imaging of biological cell and tissue.

Recent Progress in Distributed Brillouin Sensors Based on Few-Mode Optical Fibers

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Brillouin scattering is a dominant inelastic scattering observed in optical fibers, where the energy and momentum transfer between photons and acoustic phonons takes place.

High-Accuracy Spectral Measurement of Stimulated-Brillouin-Scattering Lidar Based on Hessian Matrix and Steger Algorithm

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
The measurement accuracy of Brillouin scattering spectra is crucial for ocean remote sensing by Brillouin scattering lidar. Due to the limited resolution of ICCD cameras, the traditional processing methods remain at the pixel or partial sub-pixel level ...

Brillouin scattering—theory and experiment: tutorial

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of America B, 2021
Brillouin scattering is an important and interesting nonlinear effect involving the interaction between optical and acoustic fields in optical waveguides. It is increasingly useful in the field of photonics, where it supplies a tunable ultra-narrow linewidth response that can be used for applications including sensing, filtering, and lasing, as well as

Investigation of Brillouin scattering parameters in single mode optical fibers

open access: yesФизика волновых процессов и радиотехнические системы, 2019
The interrogation scheme for fiber optic sensor based on Brillouin scattering is represented. The application of stimulated Brillouin scattering signal formed in etalon optical fiber as reference source realized is proposed.

Cascaded forward Brillouin lasing in a chalcogenide whispering gallery mode microresonator

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2022
We report the first observation of cascaded forward stimulated Brillouin scattering in a microresonator platform. We have demonstrated 25 orders of intramodal Stokes beams separated by a Brillouin shift of 34.5 MHz at a sub-milliwatt threshold at 1550 nm.

Analysis of enhanced stimulated Brillouin scattering in silicon slot waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Stimulated Brillouin scattering has attracted renewed interest with the promise of highly tailorable integration into the silicon photonics platform. However, significant Brillouin amplification in silicon waveguides has yet to be shown.

Coherent Brillouin scattering

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We measure the spectrum of coherent Brillouin scattering (CBS) in a gas as a function of time and observe for the first time additional spectral sidebands and line shape narrowing of the Brillouin peak. We find that both effects result from the interference of the density modulation induced by the moving dipole force of the pump beams with the acoustic

High-Spatial-Resolution Dynamic Strain Measurement Based on Brillouin Optical Correlation-Domain Sensors

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Brillouin-scattering-based sensors have been widely applied in distributed temperature or strain measurement in recent 20 years. Brillouin optical correlation-domain technology has extensive development and application prospects because of its millimeter-
