Estimating action plans for smart poultry houses [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In poultry farming, the systematic choice, update, and implementation of periodic (t) action plans define the feed conversion rate (FCR[t]), which is an acceptable measure for successful production. Appropriate action plans provide tailored resources for broilers, allowing them to grow within the so-called thermal comfort zone, without wast or lack of ...

Bacillus subtilis 29784 induces a shift in broiler gut microbiome toward butyrate-producing bacteria and improves intestinal histomorphology and animal performance.

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
The study reports the effects of Bacillus subtilis 29784 on broiler performance. A total of 1,600 one-day-old Cobb 500 male broiler chicks received either a control diet or the same diet to which B.

Haplotype‐resolved genome and pan‐genome graphs reveal the impacts of structural variation on functional genome and feather colors in chickens

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
This study built a Wenchang chicken haplotype genome and integrated it with 29 others to create a chicken pangenome atlas. Analysis of 354 chickens revealed 185,205 structural variations (SVs), with one‐third derived from homology‐based and transposable elements.

Glucagon and Neuromedin U Suppress Food Intake in Broiler Chicks

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2015
Several peptides show different effects on food intake between broiler and layer chicks. For example, the central administration of β-melanocyte-stimulating hormone decreased food intake in layer chicks but not in broiler chicks.

Carcass and meat quality of dual‐purpose chickens (Lohmann Dual, Belgian Malines, Schweizerhuhn) in comparison to broiler and layer chicken types

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2018
Currently, there is an intensive ethical discussion about the practice of culling day‐old layer cockerels. One solution to avoid this practice could be using dual‐purpose types, where males are fattened for meat and females used for egg production.

Soyasaponin and vertical microbial transmission: Maternal effect on the intestinal development and health of early chicks

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
This study investigates the vertical transmission of maternal microbiota in chickens and how it is modulated by maternal soyasaponin supplementation. Using a model spanning the reproductive tract, egg components, and developing chicks, we show that maternal gut and reproductive microbiota, including Bifidobacterium adolescentis (B.

Effect of dietary supplementation with phytogenic blend on growth performance, apparent ileal digestibility of nutrients, intestinal morphology, and cecal microflora of broiler chickens.

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
The effects of dietary supplementation with phytogenic blend (PB) of Aerva lanata, Piper betle, Cynodon dactylon, and Piper nigrum on growth performance, ileal nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, and cecal microflora were determined in a 42 ...

Armed Conflict and Livestock Species Choices in Northern Nigeria: Evidence From Panel Data Analysis

open access: yesJournal of International Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how armed conflict influences livestock species choices among households in northern Nigeria, a region with livelihoods largely dependent on livestock keeping. Using household panel survey data with global georeferenced conflict data, this study observes significant trends in livestock ownership patterns from 2010 to 2016 ...

Amino acids and polyamines content in pectoral muscle of broiler chickens under using spleen extract for prevention of pre-slaughter stress

open access: yesБіологічні студії, 2015
The results on the Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) level in blood, amino acids and polyamines content in pectoral muscle of broiler chickens under using spleen extract for decreasing pre-slaughter stress are presented.

Effects of thymol and carvacrol supplementation on intestinal integrity and immune responses of broiler chickens challenged with Clostridium perfringens

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, 2016
Necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens infection leads to serious economic losses in the global poultry production. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of essential oils (EO, which contained 25 % thymol and 25 ...
