A century of vitamin E research: The innovative journey from basic biology to synthetic bio‐manufacturing

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
For a century, Vitamin E has been studied for its health benefits. This review traces its journey from basic biological discovery, and the recent identification of its link to chlorophyll degradation, to the modern era of sustainable microbial manufacturing, highlighting the innovative technologies that define its future production.

Alternative Protein Sources in Poultry and Pig Nutrition—A Review

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proteins are an essential nutrient for the viability of all animals, enabling organisms to grow, regenerate and defend themselves against pathogenic organisms. Soybean and soybean‐based materials are commonly used to supplement protein in animal nutrition.

Flexible Housing for Broiler Breeders , ,

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1986
Abstract Broiler breeder performance in a conventional curtain sidewall house and a flexible (FLEX) house from 27 to 64 weeks was compared in two separate trials. Trial 1 was initiated in June of 1982 and Trial 2 in October of 1983. The conventional house was equipped with thermostatically controlled curtains and a stirring (Casablanca type) fan. The

Context‐Dependent Effects of Amino Acid Supplementation on Nestling Growth and Baseline Innate Immune Function

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We experimentally supplemented great tit nestlings with methionine, leucine, or tap water to test how essential amino acids influence growth and immune function in forest and suburban habitats. Supplementation increased mass gain in smaller forest nestlings and enhanced lysis activity with methionine in suburban populations.

Akkermansia muciniphila enhances chicken resistance to infectious bronchitis virus by boosting GABA synthesis and suppressing the NF‐κB inflammatory pathway

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 3, Issue 1, March 2026.
Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) represents a major threat to poultry production, with current control strategies offering limited protection. In this study, we demonstrate gut microbiome is a critical determinant of IBV resistance using fecal microbiota transplantation.

Variation in seed abundance predicts yolk fatty acid composition in a wild population of birds

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 2, March 2026.
Bird embryos develop inside eggs, which contain maternal substances that can shape offspring phenotype and fitness. Yolk fatty acids are a key energy source for the developing embryo, with omega‐6 (ω‐6) and omega‐3 (ω‐3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) obtained exclusively from the diet.

Prospective of indigenous African wild food plants in alleviation of the severe iron deficiency anaemia in Sub‐Saharan Africa

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 486-498, March 2026.
Iron deficiency anaemia remains a major public health challenge in Sub‐Saharan Africa, where population growth, displacement and limited resources heighten nutritional insecurity. We compiled a list of indigenous African underutilized wild food plants and examined their potential for addressing micronutrient deficiencies.

Practices, Management and Resource Preferences of Backyard (Hobby) Poultry Owners in Central North Carolina: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Backyard, or hobby, poultry owners in central North Carolina primarily viewed their flocks as pets, and reported self‐sufficiency in managing flock health with support from online social networks. Zoonotic disease prevention and biosecurity education that appeals to the pet‐owner mindset should be further explored for use in backyard poultry settings ...

Chicken Origin Tribasic H9N2 Avian Influenza Virus Induces Potent Early Antiviral Response With Low Pathogenicity in Japanese Quails

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
This study gives valuable insights into host–pathogen interaction and confirms that the circulating tribasic H9N2 virus remains phenotypically low pathogenic in Japanese quails in Bangladesh but cause long‐term impairment of important productivity parameters (weight gain, laying rates).
