Fluid dynamics and jamming in a dilatant fluid [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We present a phenomenological fluid dynamics model for a dilatant fluid, i.e. a severe shear thickening fluid, by introducing a state variable. The Navier-Stokes equation is coupled with the state variable field, which evolves in response to the local shear stress as the fluid is sheared.

Usefulness of gene expression profiling of bronchoalveolar lavage cells in acute lung allograft rejection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundChronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) is the main limitation to long-term survival after lung transplantation. Because effective therapies are lacking, early identification and mitigation of risk factors is a pragmatic approach to improve ...

Evaluation of variations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in horses with recurrent airway obstruction.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Veterinary Research, 2011
OBJECTIVE To determine variations in cytologic counts of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid attributable to month of collection, first and second aliquots, and left and right lung sites in horses with recurrent airway obstruction (RAO).

Pharmacokinetics of continuous infusion ceftolozane/tazobactam in two patients with extensive total body surface area burns

open access: yesPharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Treatment of infections in patients with burn injuries is challenging due to altered antimicrobial pharmacokinetics. Continuous infusion β‐lactam therapy may be a useful antimicrobial stewardship strategy to improve pharmacodynamic target attainment in this population.

Microbiology of Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid in Children With Acute Nonresponding or Recurrent Community-Acquired Pneumonia: Identification of Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae as a Major Pathogen

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2011
Childhood community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a heterogeneous and polymicrobial entity. Using flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage, we identified nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae as one of the major pathogens involved in ...

Associations between patient clinical characteristics and the presence of cytomegalovirus DNA in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of children with recurrent wheezing

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2018
Background This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in the Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of children with recurrent wheezing and to identify associations with certain patient clinical characteristics.

Experimental pneumonia induced by a Bordetella parapertussis-like organism in the ovine and murine lung : a thesis presented in partial fulfillment (70%) of the requirements for the degree of Master of Philosophy in Veterinary Pathology at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Thirty-four specific pathogen-free (SPF) Swiss mice were intranasally inoculated with a suspension containing about 3 x 10 7 colony-forming units (CFU)/ml of a B. parapertussis-like organism isolated from pneumonic ovine lung.
