In vitro skin penetration of bronidox, bronopol and formaldehyde from cosmetics

Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2021
The objective was to evaluate the influence of the formulation in the in vitro transdermal absorption through pig ear skin of three preservatives, bronopol, bronidox and formaldehyde as well as the absorption of formaldehyde from bronopol and dimethyloldimethyl hydantoin (DMDM hydantoin). An aqueous solution, an O/W emulsion and a hydrogel were assayed.

Bronopol allergic contact dermatitis

Contact Dermatitis, 1983
Bronopol (2‐bromo‐2‐nitropropane‐1, 3‐diol) is an antimicrobial widely used as a preservative, primarily in cosmetic formulations. Analysis of patch tests performed on our patients revealed an incidence of 12.5% relevant positive results to 0.5% and/or 0.25% bronopol.

Determination of bronopol and its degradation products by HPLC

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2002
Bronopol (2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol) is widely used as an anti-microbial in cosmetics, external medicaments, shampoos and bath preparations. A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic separation method with UV spectrophotometric detection was developed for the determination of bronopol and its degradation products.
