Enzymic micro-determination of bronopol and its application to pharmaceuticals
The Analyst, 1993A procedure is described for the rapid micro-determination of bronopol, based on the measurement of inhibition of a thiol protease, papain. The inhibition follows a linear relationship with concentration in the range 0.8–4.0 µg ml–1. The method utilizes the property of bronopol that is primarily responsible for its antimicrobial activity (ability to ...

[Contact allergy to the preservative bronopol].
Der Hautarzt; Zeitschrift fur Dermatologie, Venerologie, und verwandte Gebiete, 1987Six cases of contact allergy to bronopol are described (5 females, 1 male; mean age, 60.8 years). Four patients suffered from stasis dermatitis of the lower leg. The cause of sensitization has been traced to bronopol-containing ointments in 5 of 6 cases. For patch testing 0.25% bronopol in petrolatum is recommended.

Human metabolism and excretion kinetics of Bronopol after oral administration
Archives of ToxicologyBronopol is a preservative mainly used in various industrial applications, but also in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The aim of this study was to investigate the human toxicokinetics of Bronopol after oral administration. Five volunteers (two male and three female) were orally dosed with 9.715 mg Bronopol (0.100 to 0.154 mg/kg bw) and their urine was ...

Antibacterial properties of plasma-modified and triclosan or bronopol coated polyethylene
Polymer, 2006Abstract The antibacterial properties of medical polyethylene (PE) were enhanced by coating with triclosan or bronopol and plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII). O2 plasma was first employed to produce a more hydrophilic surface on the PE, followed by argon or hydrogen plasma treatment to enhance the coating of triclosan or bronopol onto the ...

The evaluation of formaldehyde, bronopol, tylosin and pimaricin as additives in simulated silage
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1975AbstractFormaldehyde, Bronopol, tylosin and pimaricin were tested as silage additives in simulated silage based on laboratory media and microbial inocula. Fermentation was restricted by 33 mM formaldehyde, 1.2 mM Bronopol and 0.2 mM tylosin. Pimaricin had little effect on fermentation but a level of 0.3 mM prevented mould growth when the silages were ...

Journal of Applied Bacteriology, 1981
Various workers have obtained seemingly contradictory results for the activity of the preservative, bronopol. The effect of pH, temperature and certain media constituents on the stability and activity of bronopol has been investigated. Bronopol has been found to be more active at higher pH values but also breaks down at a faster rate.

Safety and Toxicity Evaluation of Bronopol in Striped Catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2013The study was performed to evaluate the safety and toxicity of bronopol in striped catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus. Bronopol product is licensed in Thailand and Vietnam for control of aquatic fungi and ciliated protozoa in scaleless fish at the daily dosage of 10 mg/l, 2-hour static immersion, for 5 consecutive days.

Bronopol as an Ingredient of a New Test Mixture for Evaluation of HPLC Columns
Journal of Liquid Chromatography & Related Technologies, 2003Abstract Different tests, including analytes or mixtures characterized by specific properties, can be used for the evaluation of chromatographic columns. High performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) columns with chemically modified surfaces, purchased from different producers, were tested in our studies.

The loss of biological activity of the preservative bronopol associated with Fusarium solani
International Biodeterioration, 1990Abstract An aqueous antacid formulation normally protected from the growth of microbial contaminants, including opportunist pathogens, with the synthetic preservative Bronopol (2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol) became contaminated with Fusarium solani . Contamination with F.

Abstract In leather industry environmental concern has been growing since 1980s. Increasing levels of pollutant emissions have reached saturation point in spite of the conventional technology that highly industrial countries have adopted to keep them under control. This has started a technology revolution in several industries.
