A simple and rapid spectrophotometric assay is described for bronopol determination in raw material. The method is based on the measurement of absorbance (at 244 nm) of bromonitroethanol (sodium salt of aci-form), the chromophoric derivative formed from bronopol instantaneously by a retroaldol reaction in the presence of 0.1 M NaOH. This derivative has

Contact Dermatitis, 1990
A total of 8149 patients were patch tested with the preservative Bronopol in 7 European contact clinics. The Majority of patients (6507) were investigated in London. Reactivity was low, with a total of 10 irritant (0.12%) and 38 allergic reactions (0.47%).

Reactions to Quaternium 15, Bronopol and Germall 115 in a standard series
Contact Dermatitis, 1986The incidence of positive patch test reactions to Quaternium 15 has increased by a factor of 3 within a relatively stable population over 2 years, while the incidence of reactions to Bronopol and Germall 115 has remained static. The problem of interpreting an apparent positive reaction to a formaldehyde‐releasing preservative in a formaldehyde ...

Surface disinfection of cod Gadus morhua and haddock Melanogrammus aeglefinus eggs with bronopol
Aquaculture, 2005Abstract Using current practice of immersion, the survival of cod eggs disinfected with 50 mg l − 1 to 500 mg l − 1 bronopol (as Pyceze [50%W/V bronopol], Novartis Animal Vaccines Ltd.) for 45 s, was higher (83–89%) when compared with negative controls (48%).

The impact of the various chemical and physical factors on the degradation rate of bronopol
International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2012SynopsisBronopol (2‐bromo‐2‐nitropropane‐1,3‐diol) is used as preservative in cosmetic industry. Its main role in commercial products consists in protection of the cosmetic composition stability by inhibiting the development of micro‐organisms. Unfortunately, preservatives can also undergo the degradation processes. The aim of examinations was to prove

Bronopol contact dermatitis in a milk recorder
British Journal of Dermatology, 1985Contact dermatitis to bronopol has been identified in a milk recorder with hand eczema. Milk recorders are contracted by the Milk Marketing Board to sample up to eight dairy herds for quality control checks. Samples are drawn at milking using a dipper with a hole 4 cm from the bottom, which allows a stream of milk to be collected into a small ...

The Pain Aggression Induced by Bronopol in the Rat
Acta Pharmacologica et Toxicologica, 1975Abstract:Bronopol in doses of 7–25 mg/kg given intraperitoneally almost immediately releases a transitory aggressive behaviour in rats. The painful state caused by bronopol‐induced chemical peritonitis probably brought about this behavioural phenomenon. The age of the animal and also the reserpine treatment play some role in this behavioural pattern.

Suitability of bronopol preservative treated milk for fatty acid determination
Journal of Dairy Research, 2011This work aimed to test if milk preserved with bronopol can be reliably used for fatty acid determination. Dairy production and milk quality are often monitored regularly to assess performance and contribute to selection indices. With evidence that fat composition can be influenced by selective breeding, there might be an interest in using samples ...

Enzymic micro-determination of bronopol and its application to pharmaceuticals
The Analyst, 1993A procedure is described for the rapid micro-determination of bronopol, based on the measurement of inhibition of a thiol protease, papain. The inhibition follows a linear relationship with concentration in the range 0.8–4.0 µg ml–1. The method utilizes the property of bronopol that is primarily responsible for its antimicrobial activity (ability to ...
