Arthropod niche differentiation linked to grazing‐induced sward islets in intensively managed agricultural pasture

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
In a given number of samples, grassland sward islets contain more species of arthropods than the surrounding sward. When corrected for abundance, there is no difference in species richness, suggesting that the effect of islets might purely be to concentrate arthropods. The community structure differences indicated by non‐metric multidimensional scaling

Forest type influence on Heliconia‐dipteran interaction networks

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Responses to forest type depended on the developmental stage of dipterans. Bract traits and forest type influenced larval abundance, but forest type had no impact on adult alpha and beta diversity. Heliconia‐dipteran interaction networks showed a nested pattern for both forest types.

SARS-CoV-2 infection in brown-headed spider monkeys (Ateles fusciceps) at a wildlife rescue center on the coast of Ecuador—South America

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Human populations can be affected in unpredictable ways by the emergence and spread of zoonotic diseases. The COVID-19 (coronavirus disease of 2019) pandemic was a reminder of how devastating these events can be if left unchecked. However, once they have

Expansion of invasive carabids across elevation and habitats on sub‐Antarctic South Georgia

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Two introduced carabid species have continued to expand their ranges on the sub‐Antarctic island of South Georgia over the past 10–15 years. The species have colonised inland valleys and are present across habitats but are more abundant in those with high vegetation cover. N‐mixture models revealed the optimal sampling method, intensity and habitat for

Spider Web Architecture and Rainfall Damage: Observational and Manipulative Studies Along a Precipitation Gradient on the Tropical Andes. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Rainfall intensity can impose substantial abiotic stress on organisms and their extended phenotypes. Using field observations and a manipulative experiment along an elevational gradient in the tropical Andes, we examined how rainfall intensity damages spider webs of different types.

Passive transponder implantation in Theraphosidae: A tool for traceability and conservation

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
PIT TAG microchip implantation was successfully performed in multiple tarantula species, showing high tolerance, rapid recovery from anaesthesia and no mortality associated with the procedure. Microchips remained stable and detectable after successive ecdysis events, with no negative effects on feeding behaviour, development, courtship, mating success ...

Analysing the Ecological Requirements of the Australian Tortoise Beetle Trachymela sloanei (Blackburn, 1897) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) to Determine the Prospects for Its Invasion Process

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Invasive species pose a serious threat to biodiversity and result in significant economic costs. Although much effort is devoted to understanding invasive processes, some aspects are poorly understood, such as the early stages of invasions and the reasons for invasion failure.
