Heat-induced triploids in Brycon amazonicus: a strategic fish species for aquaculture and conservation

open access: yesZygote, 2021
SummaryTriploidization plays an important role in aquaculture and surrogate technologies. In this study, we induced triploidy in the matrinxã fish (Brycon amazonicus) using a heat-shock technique. Embryos at 2 min post fertilization (mpf) were heat shocked at 38°C, 40°C, or 42°C for 2 min. Untreated, intact embryos were used as a control.

Efeito da pressão de vácuo na carne de peixe Yamú (Brycon amazonicus) durante o armazenamento refrigerado [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This study aimed to assess the cryoprotectant effect of vacuum packaging (35 and 45 kPa) on cold preserved (0 °C and -18 °C) fillets of Yamú (Brycon amazonicus), during 5 days of storage. We analyzed the physicochemical and microbiological changes in the

Impacts of Hydroelectric Dams on Amazonian Fisheries: Assessing Functional Attributes in the Madeira River

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 41, Issue 7, Page 1493-1502, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The Madeira River is one of the main tributaries of the Amazon Basin, supporting over 1300 known fish species. Fisheries in this region play a critical role for riverine populations, serving as a primary source of income and sustenance. In 2011, the construction of the Jirau and Santo Antônio hydroelectric dams (HEDs) was completed along the ...

Níveis de proteína bruta na dieta de juvenis de matrinxã (Brycon amazonicus)

open access: yes, 2018
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of crude protein levels on the growth performance and body composition of juvenile Brycon amazonicus. Four experimental diets were formulated to include increasing levels of crude protein (CP) at 30, 35, 40 and 45%.

Impact of Vitamin C on Growth, Haemato‐Immunological Characteristics and Stress Tolerance Capability of Climbing Perch, Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1792)

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Climbing perch, Anabas testudineus, were fed four diets: D0, D500, D1000 and D1500, containing 0, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg of vitamin C per kg of basal diet, respectively, over 70 days. After the growth trial, significantly higher final weight, percent body weight (%WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) were observed in fish fed D1000 followed by ...

Sperm Quality, Milt Biochemistry, and Cellular Ultrastructure in Fresh and Cryopreserved Sperm of Brycon amazonicus

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Milt cryopreservation facilitates native fish’s constant production of commercial interest. However, it can damage spermatozoa (sptz) due to the osmotic stress of diluents and low temperatures. This study compares spermatic quality in fresh (SF) and cryopreserved (CS) milt in B. amazonicus for 24 h, 1 month, and 3 months.

LEVAMISOLE MODULATES THE CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNITY OF MATRINXí, Brycon amazonicus

open access: yesBoletim do Instituto de Pesca, 2019
The use of immunomodulators is an alternative to improve the immune system of fish and avoid the excessive use of antibiotics. Levamisole is a synthetic anthelmintic which promotes a potent immunostimulation on innate and acquired variables of fish. In order to access the levamisole effects on matrinxã, Brycon amazonicus, fish were fed levamisole at ...
