Sites of Action of HIV-1 Vpu in BST-2/Tetherin Downregulation

Current HIV Research, 2012
The interferon-inducible host restriction factor bone marrow stromal antigen 2 (BST-2/tetherin) blocks the release of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) by directly cross-linking virions to the membrane of infected cells. This antiviral effect is counteracted by the HIV-1 accessory protein viral protein U (Vpu) through mechanisms that remain ...

Role of BST-2/Tetherin in Hepatitis C Virus Infection (108.6)

The Journal of Immunology, 2012
Abstract Bone marrow stromal cell antigen 2 (BST-2, also known as tetherin/CD317/HM1.24) is an interferon (IFN)-inducible membrane protein with a potential role in innate immunity against virus infection. BST-2 has recently been identified as a host restriction factor for diverse families of enveloped viruses including retroviruses ...

Adaptation of Human and Simian Immunodeficiency Viruses for Resistance to Tetherin/BST-2

Current HIV Research, 2012
Tetherin (BST-2 or CD317) is an interferon-inducible cellular factor that prevents the detachment of enveloped viruses from infected cells. The primate lentiviruses have evolved different countermeasures to tetherin. The majority of SIVs use Nef to antagonize the tetherin proteins of their nonhuman primate hosts.

[Inhibition of HIV virus-like particles production by BST-2].

Bing du xue bao = Chinese journal of virology, 2011
Recently, BST-2 has been identified as an effective cellular factor that prevents the release of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and other enveloped viruses by tethering virus particles to the cell surface. Here, we showed that the production of HIV-1 virus-like particles was markedly inhibited by BST-2.
