Protection of Spanish Ibex (Capra pyrenaica) against Bluetongue virus serotypes 1 and 8 in a subclinical experimental infection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Many wild ruminants such as Spanish ibex (Capra pyrenaica) are susceptible to Bluetongue virus (BTV) infection, which causes disease mainly in domestic sheep and cattle.

Gibbs entropy and irreversible thermodynamics

open access: yes, 1999
Recently a number of approaches has been developed to connect the microscopic dynamics of particle systems to the macroscopic properties of systems in nonequilibrium stationary states, via the theory of dynamical systems.

Impact of FSHB and FSHR Genes Polymorphisms on Hormonal Profile and Sperm Retrieval Outcome in Men With Klinefelter Syndrome: A Clinical–Genetic Predictive Study

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Genetic variability within the follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH)‐related genes might contribute to phenotypic heterogeneity in patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS), yet its clinical impact on sperm retrieval remains unclear. Objectives To investigate the association between FSHB c.211 G > T and FSHR polymorphisms (c.2039 A > G ...

A study of commercial vehicle brake judder transmission using multi-body dynamic analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
YesBraking-induced forced vibration, known as brake judder in road vehicles, causes dissatisfaction to drivers and passengers and also damage and possible early failure in components and systems. In this paper, the transmission of judder vibration from

Immune checkpoint inhibitor‐induced eosinophilic fasciitis: A pharmacovigilance and EADV Task force study

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive retrospective analysis of 121 immune checkpoint inhibitor‐induced eosinophilic fasciitis cases, including clinical presentation, diagnostic features and treatment outcomes using data from the EADV Task Force ‘Dermatology for Cancer Patients’, two international pharmacovigilance databases and the current literature.

Multiserotype protection elicited by a combinatorial prime-boost vaccination strategy against bluetongue virus. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Bluetongue virus (BTV) belongs to the genus Orbivirus within the family Reoviridae. The development of vector-based vaccines expressing conserved protective antigens results in increased immune activation and could reduce the number of multiserotype ...

Microanatomical features of bovids long bones: What are the effects of mass and habitat?

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
This study provides the first qualitative and quantitative exploration of inter‐bones and interspecific variations in the microanatomy of long bones in bovids in response to significant changes in body mass and habitat. Abstract Bovids are a valuable group for studying limb long bone adaptations due to differences in size and the environment that the ...

Morphofunctional effects of captivity on the microanatomy of the talus bone in a wild ungulate (Sus scrofa)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Our study explores the plastic changes induced by captivity on the microanatomy of the talus of wild boars, revealing denser bone with tighter trabecular networks but a lower relative maximum thickness of compact bone. These plastic adaptations can serve to detect early processes of domestication in the archaeological record.

Culicoides biting midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) feeding on donkeys in the United Kingdom, with reference to the risk of transmission and persistence of African horse sickness virus

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Culicoides biting midges were collected at a donkey sanctuary in the United Kingdom using UV light‐suction traps. Culicoides were found in abundance and all specimens were identified to species level. Blood‐feeding on donkeys was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing of host bloodmeals. Donkeys could play a significant role in the

Vaccination as a Strategy to Prevent Bluetongue Virus Vertical Transmission

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
Bluetongue virus (BTV) produces an economically important disease in ruminants of compulsory notification to the OIE. BTV is typically transmitted by the bite of Culicoides spp., however, some BTV strains can be transmitted vertically, and this is ...
