Discussion on buckling stability of lattice boom

2021 4th International Conference on Electron Device and Mechanical Engineering (ICEDME), 2021
As the main bearing force component of the crane, whose carrying capacity directly affects the lifting capacity. The crane boom is a typical truss structure, and the local stability is one of the main mechanical problems that limit the carrying capacity of the lattice boom.

Vibrations and Stability of Buckled Panels

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1965
The small amplitude vibrations of a rectangular panel relative to a static buckled configuration and the stability of that configuration are studied. Both the static and dynamic equations of equilibrium are solved through a perturbation expansion. The stability of buckled configurations is investigated by studying the real and imaginary character of ...

Stabilization Control of a Simply Supported Buckled Beam

Journal of Vibration and Control, 2003
A stabilization control scheme for a simply supported buckled beam subjected to a compressive force is proposed theoretically and experimentally. It is easily predicted that the application of a control force based on P-control (control force is proportional to the deflection) increases the stiffness of the beam as well as the critical compressive ...

Elastic Stability and Buckling

2013
As we already mentioned in Chap. 2, and as is known from everyday experience (for example, compressing a short plastic ruler or the like between thumb and middle finger, as seen in Fig. 10.1), a slender bar subject to a compressive axial force is likely to buckle (that is, assume a bent shape) if the force is sufficiently large.

Shape and Buckling Transitions in Solid-Stabilized Drops

Langmuir, 2005
We study shape and buckling transitions of particle-laden sessile and pendant droplets that are forced to shrink in size. Monodisperse polystyrene particles were placed at the interface between water and decane at conditions that are known to produce hexagonal, crystalline arrangements on flat interfaces.

Stability of reticulated shells considering member buckling

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2012
Abstract In order to understand the influence of member buckling on the stability of reticulated shells, a key problem of how to distinguish the member buckling for reticulated shell structures was pointed out, and judgment methods of member buckling were obtained. Using a Kiewitt-8 dome as an example, the buckling characteristic and propagation rule

On the Stability of Large Discrete Buckling Structures

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1983
An approximate applicable method is presented for the computation of the critical buckling load of a moderately large complicated assembly in terms of traces of successive powers of the stability matrix. The method is based on the use of the bound approach of reference [1, 2]. An illustrative example and comparison with known results are given.

Stability, buckling, and postbuckling of elastic structures

Meccanica, 1975
This paper is the continuation of a research on the stability and postbuckling behaviour of elastic structures; in the first Part [n. 4, Vol. X, 1975 of this Journal], the potential energy of elastic tridimensional bodies has been defined in a suitable configuration space, and its properties of regularity have been studied.
