Innovative Look at the ‘General Method’ of Assessing Buckling Resistance of Steel Structures

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2021
Stability checking is an essential element of the dimensioning of steel frame structures. One of the stability checking methods allowed by EN 1993-1-1 is the so-called general method of assessing structural stability, based on buckling curves and ...

Autonomous Folding of Soft Matter From Living Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Origami structures are endowed with “living” polymer creases that grow, remodel, and stiffen in response to nutrient solutions. This post‐fabrication growth enables autonomous folding, iterative regrowth, and mechanical tuning involving origami assemblies, such as cranes, Miura‐ori tessellations, rigid and non‐rigid square‐twist patterns, establishing ...

Analysis and Advancements in Automotive Design with FRP Novel nanocomposite: Analyzing the Buckling and Post-Buckling Performance of Nanocomposite Panels with Functional Cutouts [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
The automotive industry's drive toward light weighting increasingly relies on fiber-reinforced polymer composites; however, the necessary inclusion of functional cutouts for wiring, mounting, and access compromises structural stability by inducing ...

Origami Metamaterials Based on Low-Melting-Point Alloy Phase Transition: Breaking the Trade-Off Between Reusability and Energy Absorption Quality. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
This work presents an origami metamaterial that integrates a low‐melting‐point alloy skeleton into an elastomeric shell. It dissipates energy through the metal's plastic deformation and recovers through the solid–liquid phase transition of the alloy together with the hyperelasticity of the shell.

Soft Skins With Reversible Thickness Morphing: Materials, Mechanisms, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Evolution of electronic skin (e‐skin) technologies toward adaptive, multifunctional soft skins. Phase I highlights early rigid and discrete sensory interfaces. Phase II shows the transition toward flexible, stretchable, and large‐area e‐skin. Phase III captures the emergence of computational e‐skin.

Buckling of stabilizers deep-sea vehicles

open access: yesMORSKIE INTELLEKTUAL`NYE TEHNOLOGII)</msg>, 2020

Influence of boundary conditions and geometric imperfections on lateral–torsional buckling resistance of a pultruded FRP I-beam by FEA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Presented are results from geometric non-linear finite element analyses to examine the lateral torsional buckling (LTB) resistance of a Pultruded fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) I-beam when initial geometric imperfections associated with the LTB mode ...

Transient Cytoskeletal Anisotropy Encodes Short‐Term Mechanical Memory in Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The same mechanical deformation can produce distinct cytoskeletal states depending on loading history. Experiments and constitutive modeling reveal that transient actin–vimentin anisotropy stores mechanical information and governs short‐term mechanical memory in glioblastoma cells.

Optimum buckling design of composite stiffened panels using ant colony algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Optimal design of laminated composite stiffened panels of symmetric and balanced layup with different number of T-shape stiffeners is investigated and presented. The stiffened panels are simply supported and subjected to uniform biaxial compressive load.

Wearable Morphology‐Adaptive in‐Ear Device With Active Cleansing Capability for Multimodal Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present SCIENCE, an in‐ear multimodal physiological monitor featuring two key innovations. Water‐triggered morphological expansion (a 2‐mm cylinder to a 9‐mm spindle) achieves conformal adaptation across complex canal geometries. Simultaneously, active biofouling mitigation disrupts cerumen barriers, reducing sensor‐skin impedance by 20%.
