Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Macrophage Extracellular Traps in Immunity and Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As a macrophage‐mediated innate defense mechanism, the dysregulated release of METs drives chronic inflammation and influences tumor progression. Furthermore, METs exhibit a functional duality within the tumor microenvironment, capable of both promoting and suppressing tumor development.

On the bias of yield-based capital budgeting methods [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we present a new capital budgeting method, called the real rate of return (RRR), which has been developed for solving the inconsistency of the modified internal rate of return (MIRR) with shareholders' wealth ...

An On‐Demand Neuromorphic Vision System Enabled by a Multi‐Paradigm Neuromorphic Device and Hierarchical Reconfigurability Designed from Device to System Level

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An on‐demand ultra‐reconfigurable intelligent vision system with hierarchical reconfigurability from device to system levels is demonstrated. Through co‐design of a multi‐paradigm device, reconfigurable circuits, and adaptive system architecture/algorithms, the system enables seamless switching among spiking, non‐spiking, neuromorphic imaging (NI), and

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Tightening the Results/Funding Link in Performance Budgeting Systems [PDF]

open access: yes
Influential contemporary performance budgeting models have sought to tighten the link between results and budgets. This paper considers three approaches – budget-linked performance targets, budgeting based upon output or outcome costs, and budgetary ...

Capital budgeting problems with fuzzy cash flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We consider the internal rate of return (IRR) decision rule in capital budgeting problems with fuzzy cash flows. The possibility distribution of the IRR at any r 0, is defined to be the degree of possibility that the (fuzzy) net present value of the ...

Mapping the “Supply–Demand–Flow” of Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Management in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a “supply–demand–flow” framework clarifies how ecosystem services move between regions by distinguishing potential and actual supply and demand. Using integrated biophysical–socioeconomic modeling, nine services in China were mapped.

AI‐Assisted Self‐Powered Wearable Dual‐Mode Sensor With TENG and Stretchable Optical Fiber for Neurological Disorder Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This manuscript presents the WDMS platform, an AI‐assisted, self‐powered wearable dual‐mode sensor for tele‐neurology. It integrates a contact–separation TENG insole with stretchable polyurethane optical‐fiber strain sensors to synchronously track plantar pressure and lower‐limb muscle deformation.
