Antiviral Activity of Scillarenin, a Plant Bufadienolide
Japanese Journal of Microbiology, 1974ABSTRACTAntiviral activity of scillarenin, a plant bufadienolide, and its mode of action were studied. Scillarenin selectively inhibited replication of picornaviruses, in particular, rhinovirus. At concentrations inhibiting rhinovirus replication, scillarenin had no effect on the synthesis of macromolecules in host cells.

Bufadienolides from Urginea pancration.
Planta medica, 2013From bulbs of URGINEA PANCRATION (Steinh.) G. de Philippe (Hyacinthaceae) 5 bufadienolides were isolated by a combination of column and droplet counter-current chromatography; their structures were elucidated mainly by FAB-MS and (1)H- and (13)C-NMR spectroscopy.

Biosynthesis of cardenolides, bufadienolides and steroid sapogenins
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1972It has been known for several years that pregnenolone is the biogenetic precursor of hormones of the adrenal cortex and of progesterone in the animal kingdom. The route to the androgenous and oestrogenous hormones also goes via this intermediate.
