The impacts of habitat disturbance on adult and larval dragonflies (Odonata) in rainforest streams in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
$\textbf{1.}$ Dragonfly assemblages (Odonata: comprising damselflies, Zygoptera; and dragonflies, Anisoptera) in Southeast Asian rainforests are extremely diverse but increasingly threatened by habitat disturbance, including logging and conversion of ...

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

Flow Cytometry for Estimating Plant Genome Size: Revisiting Assumptions, Sources of Variation, Reference Standards, and Best Practices

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Horticultural Science
Flow cytometry has been widely used to estimate relative and absolute genome sizes (DNA contents) of plants for more than 50 years. However, the accuracy of these estimates can vary widely because of many factors, including errors in the genome size ...

A Systems Approach to Identifying Hazards in the Management of Vegetative Buffers for the Protection of Drinking Water Quality

open access: yesEnvironmental Sciences Proceedings, 2023
Using ecosystem services provided by stream buffers has the potential to complement conventional engineering solutions, such as water treatment, and reduce public health risks to consumers.

Anticipatory Buffer Control and Quality Selection for Wireless Video Streaming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Video streaming is in high demand by mobile users, as recent studies indicate. In cellular networks, however, the unreliable wireless channel leads to two major problems. Poor channel states degrade video quality and interrupt the playback when a user cannot sufficiently fill its local playout buffer: buffer underruns occur.

An Algorithm for Reordering Buffer Management Problem and Experimental Evaluations on Discrete Distributions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In the reordering buffer management problem, a sequence of requests must be executed by a service station, where a cost occurs for each pair of consecutive requests with different attributes. A reordering buffer management algorithm aims to permute the input sequence using the buffer to minimize the total cost.

Implementing Toyota Production System (TPS) concept in a small automotive parts manufacturer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This study investigates the consequences of implementing Toyota Production System (TPS) in the local automotive parts manufacturer production line. The production line consisted of three different processes and two inter-process buffers.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.
