Exploring defects with degrees of freedom in free scalar CFTs
Defects in conformal field theories are interesting objects to study from both formal and applied points of view. In this paper, we construct conformal defects in free scalar field CFTs in diverse dimensions.

Samples of Fe61Co10Y8Cu1B20 alloy were investigated in the ‘approach to ferromagnetic saturation’ region by using the Kronmüller method. The amorphous material was obtained by radially cooling the molten alloy under a protective atmosphere of inert gas ...

Shock-Induced Defects in Bulk Materials [PDF]
ABSTRACTIn this paper examples of the shock-induced defects produced during shock compression which correlate with microstructure / mechanical property changes induced in materials due to shock prestraining are discussed. The characteristics of the shock impulse(peak shock pressure, pulse duration, and rarefaction rate) imparted to the material under ...

This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

We investigate the electrical characteristics of defects at the SiO2/Si interface, within the adjacent Si crystal, and through the depth profile of the bulk defect using three-dimensional deep-level transient spectroscopy (3D-DLTS).

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

Sn-doped Bi1.1Sb0.9Te2S bulk crystal topological insulator with excellent properties
An ideal topological insulator possesses an insulating bulk and a unique conducting surface however such behaviour is typically inhibited by bulk conduction due to defects.

How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...
