Comparing the immune response to a novel intranasal nanoparticle PLGA vaccine and a commercial BPI3V vaccine in dairy calves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
peer-reviewedBackground There is a need to improve vaccination against respiratory pathogens in calves by stimulation of local immunity at the site of pathogen entry at an early stage in life. Ideally such a vaccine preparation would not be inhibited by

Risk of infection of dairy cattle in the EU with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus affecting dairy cows in the United States of America (H5N1, Eurasian lineage goose/Guangdong clade 2.3.4.4b. genotype B3.13)

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract This opinion assesses the risk of avian influenza H5N1 B3.13 genotype virus infection in EU dairy cattle. Introduction of the virus into EU dairy cattle, poultry or wild birds via trade or migratory birds from the US is assessed as highly unlikely.

A Focus on Natural Autophagy Modulators as Potential Host‐Directed Weapons Against Emerging and Re‐Emerging Viruses

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 45, Issue 6, Page 1850-1882, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Autophagy is a highly conserved intracellular process involved in maintaining homeostasis and in the degradation of damaged organelles and external pathogens. Nature provides complex and varied reservoirs of scaffolds and chemical entities that may have a pivotal role in the search for new therapeutic leads.

PLASMD BEARING A CDNA COPY OF THE GENOME OF BOVINE VIRAL DIARRHEA VIRUS, CHIMERIC DERIVATIVES THEREOF, AND METHOD OF PRODUCING AN INFECTIOUS BOVINE WRAL DARRHEAVIRUS USING SAD PLASMID [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A plasmid bearing a cDNA copy of the genome of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), chimeric derivatives of the plasmid and a method of producing an infectious bovine viral diarrhea virus using the plasmid are disclosed. The invention relates to a plasmid

Does limited virucidal activity of biocides include duck hepatitis B virucidal action? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: There is agreement that the infectivity assay with the duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) is a suitable surrogate test to validate disinfectants for hepatitis B virucidal activity.

Clinical Approach and Successful Intervention of Congenital Hydrocephalus in Neonatal Calf

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
A neonatal calf with congenital hydrocephalus, characterized by a dome‐shaped cranial vault, was treated with gradual drainage of cerebrospinal fluid and a horizontal mattress suture. The calf exhibited neurological improvement following surgery. At 12‐day follow‐up, normal behaviour and growth were observed with no neurological deficits.

Evaluation of temporal surveillance system sensitivity and freedom from bovine viral diarrhea in Danish dairy herds using scenario tree modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: The temporal sensitivity of the surveillance system (TemSSe) for Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) in Danish dairy herds was evaluated. Currently, the Danish antibody blocking ELISA is used to test quarterly bulk tank milk (BTM).

Prevalence and genetic characterization of bovine viral diarrhea virus in dairy cattle in northern China

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is one of the major viral pathogens responsible for respiratory disease complexes in cattle and other ruminants; it has spread worldwide and poses a significant threat to the cattle industry.

Genetic diversity of Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus from cattle in Chile between 2003 and 2007

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2018
Background Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus causes significant economic losses in cattle. BVDV has high genomic diversity, with two species, BVDV-1 and BVDV-2, and at least twenty-one subgenotypes for BVDV-1 and four subgenotypes for BVDV-2.
