Does bystander behavior make a difference? How passive and active bystanders in the group moderate the effects of bullying exposure.

open access: yesJournal of Occupational Health Psychology, 2021
Workplace bullying has negative effects on targets' well-being. Researchers are increasingly aware that bullying occurs within social contexts and is often witnessed by others in the organization, such as bystanders.

Allogeneic Immune Cell Perfusion Inhibits the Growth of Vascularized 3D In Vitro Tumor Models, Induces Vascular Regression and Desmoplasia, but Promotes Tumor Cell Invasion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a vascularized 3D tumor model to investigate immune–stromal–tumor interactions under allogeneic PBMC perfusion. While immune cells induced tumor shrinkage, they also promoted vascular regression, stromal activation, and cancer cell invasion.

Tumor-associated macrophages in breast cancer: Innocent bystander or important player?

open access: yesCancer Treatment Reviews, 2018
Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are important tumor-promoting cells in the breast tumor microenvironment. Preclinically TAMs stimulate breast tumor progression, including tumor cell growth, invasion and metastasis.

Radiation-Induced Senescence Bystander Effect: The Role of Exosomes

open access: yesBiology, 2020
Ionizing Radiation (IR), especially at high doses, induces cellular senescence in exposed cultures. IR also induces “bystander effects” through signals released from irradiated cells, and these effects include many of the same outcomes observed following

Logic‐Gated HSV‐TK/GCV Suicide Gene Circuit for Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The BRAS comprises two modular genetic components driven by distinct tumor‐specific promoters and a failsafe layer with the NOT gate. This multi‐input logic gate circuit enables precise, specific expression of HSV‐TK in breast cancer cells with hardly expression in normal cell and effectively inhibits tumor growth in a triple‐negative breast cancer ...

Decoding Triphenotypic Neutrophils in Cervical Cancer Evolution and Targeting SPP1+/GBP1+/ELOVL5+ Tumor‐Associated Neutrophils to Sensitize Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The functional schematic diagram of tumor associated neutrophils. Abstract Enhancing cervical cancer (CC) immunotherapy requires deciphering the heterogeneous tumor immune microenvironment (TIME), particularly neutrophil phenotypic dynamics. Here, 1) we collected 543 CC cases to find that patients with elevated neutrophil levels have a higher incidence

Infectious diseases and autoimmunity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction: Autoimmunity occurs when the immune system recognizes and attacks host tissue. In addition to genetic factors, environmental triggers (in particular viruses, bacteria and other infectious pathogens) are thought to play a major role in the ...
