Development of Insulin Resistance in Patients with Epilepsy During Valproate and Carbamazepine Monotherapy

open access: yesArchives of Epilepsy, 2016
Objectives:This study investigated the development of insulin resistance (IR) secondary to the use of valproic acid (VPA) and carbamazepine (CBZ), which are highly effective and frequently used antiepileptic drugs. Methods:This cross-sectional prospective

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

THE CHANGE OF BLOOD INSULIN LEVEL IN PATIENTS WITH BRAIN GLIOBLASTOMA DURING ADJUVANT RADIATION THERAPY

open access: yesAlʹmanah Kliničeskoj Mediciny, 2016
Aim: To analyse the level of insulin oversecretion in patients with glioblastoma, which during adjuvant radiation therapy (aLT) received dexamethasone at daily doses of 4 or 8 mg.Materials and methods: The study included 81 patients with brain ...

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

Proinsulin C‐peptide ‐ A Consensus Statement

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, 2001
In recent years the physiological role of the proinsulin C‐peptide has received increasing attention, focusing on the potential therapeutic value of C‐peptide replacement in preventing and ameliorating type 1 diabetic complications. In order to consolidate these new data and to identify the immediate directions of C‐peptide research and its clinical ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Renal and vascular benefits of C-peptide: Molecular mechanisms of C-peptide action

open access: yesBiologics: Targets & Therapy, 2008
C-peptide has long been thought to be an inert byproduct of insulin production, but it has become apparent, and accepted, that C-peptide has important biological properties. C-peptide displays beneficial effects in many tissues affected by diabetic complications, such as increased peripheral blood flow and protection from renal damage.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.
