C-Reactive Protein Serum Levels After Seizures
Investigators at Tampere University Hospital, Finland measured C-reactive protein (CRP) serum concentrations in 31 patients (mean age 34, range 6-58 years) with refractory focal epilepsy while undergoing video-EEG monitoring and compared with 80 healthy ...

We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

Point-of-care C-reactive protein testing to reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics for non-severe acute respiratory infections in Vietnamese primary health care: a randomised controlled trial [PDF]
Background Inappropriate antibiotic use for acute respiratory tract infections is common in primary health care, but distinguishing serious from self-limiting infections is diffi cult, particularly in low-resource settings.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Virtual Identification of Essential Proteins Within the Protein Interaction Network of Yeast [PDF]
Topological analysis of large scale protein-protein interaction networks (PINs) is important for understanding the organisational and functional principles of individual proteins. The number of interactions that a protein has in a PIN has been observed to be correlated with its indispensability.
