Preharvest potassium silicate treatments influence the morphological appearance and enhance nutritional composition of almond kernels

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 5, Page 2800-2807, 30 March 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND The almond industry requires new strategies to improve almond kernel quality. The use of biostimulants such as potassium silicate (KSi) is an eco‐friendly and non‐polluting alternative. The aim of this work was to investigate the preharvest application of KSi solutions at 2 and 20 mmol L−1 to ‘Peraleja’ almond trees during two ...

Microwave‐Assisted Recycling of Lithium‐Ion Batteries: Linking Process Optimization to Volatile Organic Compounds and Fluorinated Gases Emission Mitigation

open access: yesBattery Energy, Volume 5, Issue 2, March 2026.
Microwave‐assisted recycling of black mass from spent lithium‐ion batteries was optimized through a Design of Experiments approach, linking heating parameters to lithium recovery efficiency and volatile emissions. Combining GC–MS and multinuclear NMR analyses, the study identifies key conditions minimizing hazardous fluorinated and organic gas ...

C23 ameliorates carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis in mice

open access: yesWorld Journal of Hepatology
BACKGROUND C23, an oligo-peptide derived from cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP), has been reported to inhibit tissue inflammation, apoptosis and fibrosis by binding to the CIRP receptor; however, there are few reports on its role in liver fibrosis and the underlying mechanism is unknown.

Phytochemical Variability of Mentha L. Species Over Three Growing Seasons

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2026.
Species of the genus Mentha are evaluated over three years for phytochemical composition and bioactivity using spectrophotometric, HPLC‐DAD, and GC‐MS analyses of methanolic extracts and essential oils. Clear genotype‐dependent differences are observed, with Mentha × piperita showing higher phenolic content and antioxidant activity than M.

Integrated Experimental and Computational Study of a Novel Benzimidazolium Salt: Crystal Structure, Antiproliferative Activity on Human Cancer Cell Lines, DFT Analysis, VEGFR2 Molecular Docking and VEGFR2‐Targeted Molecular Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesCrystal Research and Technology, Volume 61, Issue 3, March 2026.
A novel benzimidazolium salt, compound 4, is synthesized and structurally characterized by spectroscopic and crystallographic methods. The compound exhibits antiproliferative activity against five human cancer cell lines. Computational studies reveal favorable VEGFR2 binding, stable protein–ligand interactions, and electronic features that support its ...

Increased incidence, survival, and registration quality of primary hepato‐pancreato‐biliary cancers in the Netherlands Cancer Registry

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 5, Page 1237-1249, 1 March 2026.
What's New? Primary hepato‐pancreato‐biliary cancers have poor prognosis and their reporting often scores low on standard data quality indicators in population‐based cancer registries. This comprehensive evaluation of cases in the Netherlands Cancer Registry shows that both the incidence and survival rates of most primary hepato‐pancreato‐biliary ...

Political Stability and Economic Development: Institutional Sclerosis and the Moderating Role of Institutions

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 34, Issue S2, Page 263-279, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the non‐linear effects of political stability on economic development and explores the moderating role of institutional factors. Drawing on panel data from 162 countries between 2007 and 2022, we employ a system generalised method of moments (system‐GMM) estimator to test the hypothesis that political stability follows ...

Marginal propensity to import and terms of trade: Panel granger causality evidence from the East African Community (EAC)

open access: yesStudia Ekonomiczne i Regionalne
The nexus between the terms of trade and marginal propensity to import and the consequent policy options arising from it among economic blocs is an area that has not been given due attention in the literature. The focus of the current paper is to examine
