C4d-staining in peritubular capillaries (PTC) in allograft biopsies is a hallmark of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR). This study investigated whether urinary C4d correlates with C4d-staining in PTC, allowing for a noninvasive screening procedure.Urine samples from 34 patients with diffuse C4d-staining in PTC (C4d-pos group) and 68 urine samples from ...

C4d as a Practical Marker for Cutaneous Amyloidosis
The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 2021Abstract: Cutaneous amyloidosis (CA) is defined by the accumulation of amyloid in the dermis; it might be primary or secondary. The diagnosis is based on histopathological findings with the demonstration of amyloid deposits, confirmed by Congo red stain under the polarized light.

Diagnostic value of C4d in renal biopsies
Current Opinion in Nephrology & Hypertension, 2005Capillary C4d is now an established marker of antibody-mediated rejection in graft biopsies. The technique is widely used to further define the clinical relevance of humoral alloreactivity in various patient subgroups. These include highly sensitized patients, recipients with late graft failure and also some with 'stable' graft function. The C4d ...

C4d: A Marker for Hepatic Transplant Rejection
Transplantation Proceedings, 2006Acute rejection is still a common complication of hepatic transplantation. The diagnosis, based on the histological examination of the graft, may be difficult to confirm in the setting of combined hepatitis C virus infection. The presence of C4d in the portal capillaries could facilitate differentiation between acute rejection and relapsed hepatitis C.

The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, 2013
Purpose Immunopathologic evidence of complement activation is important for the diagnosis of antibody mediated rejection. Two long-lasting complement split products are routinely assayed in biopsies, C3d & C4d. Since C4 cleavage precedes C3 cleavage in the complement cascade, detecting both C3d and C4d in tissue suggests complement activation has run ...

C4d Deposition in Cardiac Allografts Correlates With Alloantibody
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, 2005The presence of C4d along the peritubular capillaries in kidney allografts correlates with the presence of anti-donor serum alloantibodies. We applied C4d staining to cardiac allograft and non-allograft biopsies to determine if C4d staining in heart allografts correlates with anti-donor serum alloantibodies. We stained for C4d all available frozen ...

Structural basis for the C4d.1/C4d.2 serologic allotypes of murine complement component C4.
The Journal of Immunology, 1988Abstract The C4d.1 antigenic specificity was first defined serologically in 1959 as an H-2-associated cellular alloantigen first designated "G," later H-2.7. It was subsequently shown to be an allotype of component C4 of the C system, with the antigenic determinant carried on the C4d proteolytic fragment of the alpha-chain, thus the ...

C4d deposits mark sites of meniscal tissue disintegration
Virchows Archiv, 2006Although the frequent occurrence of meniscal degeneration is a well-known fact and its consequences include rupture and even loss of the meniscus, the pathogenetic factors are established insufficiently. Because complement factors and leukocytes are present in synovial fluid, we tried to detect complement deposits and macrophages in menisci, which ...

Generation and enrichment of C4d in whole serum
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1979A comparison of two methods of generation of C4d (the degradation product of complement component C4) and a method for the preparation of an enriched serum fraction of this fragment are presented.

C3d and C4d Deposition Early After Lung Transplantation
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, 2008Complement staining as a predictor of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) after lung transplantation continues to be debated. In a cohort of 33 lung transplant recipients (LTRs) we assessed early post-transplant (or=2 on more than one occasion) was observed in 20 and 11 LTRs, respectively.
