Carbohydrate Antigen 125 Is a Biomarker of the Severity and Prognosis of Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Background: Emerging evidence has showed that serum carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA 125) levels are associated with the severity and prognosis of heart failure. However, its role in pulmonary hypertension remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the

Biomarkers and overall survival in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma treated with TGF-βRI inhibitor galunisertib. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
BackgroundTransforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) signalling is involved in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We followed changes in biomarkers during treatment of patients with HCC with the TGF-βRI/ALK5 inhibitor galunisertib ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Sr/Ca ratios and oxygen isotopes from sclerosponges: Temperature history of the Carribean mixed layer and thermocline during the Little Ice Age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate aragonitic skeletons of the Caribbean sclerosponge Ceratoporella nicholsoni from Jamaica, 20 m below sea level (mbsl), and Pedro Bank, 125 mbsl. We use d18O and Sr/Ca ratios as temperature proxies to reconstruct the Caribbean mixed layer

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Epithelioid angiosarcoma arising in a uterine leiomyoma with associated elevated CA-125: A case report

open access: yesGynecologic Oncology Reports, 2017
We describe the case of a 67 year old female with longstanding uterine leiomyomas who presented with fatigue, weight loss, elevated CA-125 and an enlarging mass arising from the posterior uterine fundus.

Serum levels of carbohydrate antigen 125 in combination with N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide in patients with acute decompensated heart failure [PDF]

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Internal Medicine, 2019
Background/Aims Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA-125) is an emerging prognostic biomarker for heart failure. We aimed to test the long-term prognostic value of CA-125 in combination with N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with ...

CA 125 in seminal plasma: correlation with semen parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ovarian cancer marker CA 125 was measured in human seminal plasma, and the concentrations ranged between 22 and 1149 U/ml, and between 39 and 4711 U/ejaculate.

An epithelial biomarker signature for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: an analysis from the multicentre PROFILE cohort study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, fatal condition with a variable disease trajectory. The aim of this study was to evaluate potential biomarkers that predict outcome for people with IPF.
