Knowledge and Perception of Coronary Artery Disease in High-Risk Women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in America and kills more women each year than all other cancers combined. While women’s level of awareness of heart disease has increased, they often do not perceive their risk of

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

An application protocol for CAD to CAD transfer of electronic information [PDF]

open access: yes
The exchange of Computer Aided Design (CAD) information between dissimilar CAD systems is a problem. This is especially true for transferring electronics CAD information such as multi-chip module (MCM), hybrid microcircuit assembly (HMA), and printed ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Non-communicable airway disease and air pollution in three African Countries: Benin, Cameroon and The Gambia

open access: yesIJTLD Open
BACKGROUND: Air pollution exposure can increase the risk of development and exacerbation of chronic airway disease (CAD). We set out to assess CAD patients in Benin, Cameroon and The Gambia and to compare their measured exposures to air pollution ...

Current Account Deficits, Macroeconomic Policy Stance and Governance: An Empirical Investigation [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper empirically investigates the effects of institutional and macroeconomic policy stance variables on current account deficits (CAD). Based on cross-section data for a broad number of developing and industrial countries, the results strongly ...

Laser forming: non-contact metal bending offers silversmithing potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Laser forming is an emerging rapid prototyping (RP) technique that has undergone research worldwide since the mid 1980s. It is a thermo-mechanical process whereby the localized heat input of the laser induces compressive stresses within the material ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Diagnostic Accuracy of MDCT Coronary Angiography in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Introduction: One of the main causes of illness and death in both India and globally is coronary artery disease, or CAD. Previously, the majority of conventional catheter examinations were performed simply for diagnostic purposes.

The Clinical Utility of a Precision Medicine Blood Test Incorporating Age, Sex, and Gene Expression for Evaluating Women with Stable Symptoms Suggestive of Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease: Analysis from the PRESET Registry. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Evaluating women with symptoms suggestive of coronary artery disease (CAD) remains challenging. A blood-based precision medicine test yielding an age/sex/gene expression score (ASGES) has shown clinical validity in the diagnosis of ...
