Cadmium stress in wheat seedlings: growth, cadmium accumulation and photosynthesis
Acta Physiologiae Plantarum, 2009Seedlings of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars Jing 411, Jinmai 30 and Yangmai 10 were exposed to 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 μM of CdCl2 in a solution culture experiment. The effects of cadmium (Cd) stress on wheat growth, leaf photon energy conversion, gas exchange, and Cd accumulation in wheat seedlings were investigated. Gas exchange was monitored

Galactoglucomannan oligosaccharides alleviate cadmium stress in Arabidopsis
Journal of Plant Physiology, 2014Our study focused on the mediatory role of galactoglucomannan oligosaccharides (GGMOs) in plant protection against cadmium stress, examined mainly on the primary root growth of Arabidopsis thaliana. The application of GGMOs diminished the negative effect of cadmium on root length, root growth dynamics and also on photosynthetic pigment content.

The role of cadmium in the peroxidative response of kidney to stress
Biological Trace Element Research, 1995Since the kidney is a main target for cadmium, its accumulation in the kidney tissue by increasing peroxidative damage make the kidney functions vulnerable to stress. For this reason, the effect of cadmium-induced peroxidative damage to kidney responses to stress was investigated in this study.

High purity cadmium springs have been creep tested between −6 and 36 °C at stresses below 5 MN/m2. The results have indicated that the creep mechanism is probably that of grain boundary diffusion creep, but with two modifications: first that subgrain boundaries may act as sources and sinks for vacancies and secondly, that the creep behaviour is Bingham

Cadmium and exposure to stress increase aggressive behavior
Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2011Environmental toxicants and stress influence the health and behavior of people from different parts of the world. In the present study, aggressive behavior was evaluated in rats exposed to cadmium (Cd) for four weeks and subjected to immobilization stress (IS) based on the resident/intruder paradigm.

Proteomic and enzymatic response of poplar to cadmium stress
Journal of Proteomics, 2009This study highlights proteomic and enzymatic changes in roots and leaves of actively growing poplar plants upon a cadmium stress exposure. Proteomic changes in response to a short-term (14 days), as well as a longer term (56 days) treatment are observed between the different organs.

Impact of cadmium stress on two maize hybrids
Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2016Some physiological parameters and composition of the root cell walls of two maize hybrids (monocots), the sensitive Novania and the tolerant Almansa were studied after treatment with cadmium cations. After 10 days of Cd2+ treatment (1 × 10-5 M and 5 × 10-5 M), plant growth inhibition, in the sensitive hybrid in particular, as well as a certain ...

The effect of superoxide dismutase deficiency on cadmium stress
Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, 2004AbstractSaccharomyces cerevisiae mutant strains deficient in superoxide dismutase (Sod), an antioxidant enzyme, were used to analyze cadmium absorption and the oxidation produced by it. Cells lacking the cytosolic Sod1 removed twice as much cadmium as the control strain, while those deficient in the mitochondrial Sod2 exhibited poor metal absorption ...
