Role of Prednisone and 25(OH) Vitamin D on Bone Mineral Density and Osteoporosis in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We evaluated the role of 25‐hydroxy vitamin D, prednisone and other risk factors for bone mineral density (BMD) loss and osteoporosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods We calculated the association between 25‐hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and other potential risk factors with BMD measures (spine T‐scores) and osteoporosis ...

Numerical assessment of the effect of xenopericardial bioprosthetic heart valve calcifications on its biomechanics

open access: yesВестник трансплантологии и искусственных органов
Objective: to conduct a pilot study of the effect of bioprosthetic heart valve leaflet calcification on biomechanics and to identify the «stress in the material – dysfunction» relationship. Materials and methods. The study’s focus was on two commercially

The temporal trends and short‐ and long‐term mortality of people with acute myocardial infarction and rheumatoid arthritis: a nationwide cohort study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Aims We investigated whether a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects the quality of inpatient acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care and long‐term mortality post‐AMI. Methods We analysed data from 784,091 adults, 6,047 with a diagnosis of RA, from England and Wales hospitalised with AMI between 2005 and 2019 from the MINAP registry, linked ...

What Is the Role of Giant Endosomal Sorting Complexes Required for Transport (ESCRT) Structures in T Cell Activation?

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The article explores the discovery of unusually large, ring‐shaped ESCRT protein structures formed by immune and stromal cells. It investigates their formation, composition, and potential roles in immune synapse formation. The findings challenge assumptions about their function in immunological synapses, suggesting an exclusive role in maintaining ...

Infrared Neural Stimulation Elicits Distinct Molecular Pathways in Astrocytes Based on Laser Pulse Parameters

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Infrared (IR) light evokes distinct calcium and water transport responses in astrocytes, depending on stimulation duration and protocol. This study uses widefield imaging and pharmacology to reveal differential engagement of astroglial signaling pathways.

Ultrastructural Aspects of Physiological Mineralization: A Comparative Study in Different Hard Tissues

open access: yesBiomolecules
The calcified tissues of vertebrates are essentially represented by bone, cartilage, dentin and calcified tendons. In all these tissues a major hallmark of mineralization is the deposition of the inorganic phase on a pre-existing collagen template, but ...

Functional Integration of Different‐Sex Gonad Transplants Into the Adult Mouse Hypothalamic Pituitary Gonadal Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study introduces and investigates different‐sex gonad transplants in a mouse model of gender‐affirming hormone therapy. Ovaries and testes implanted into gonadectomized adults exhibit gametogenesis and steroidogenesis independent of the sex of the host.
