The Effect of BaCl2 on the Resting Membrane Potential of the Superior Flexor Muscle of Crayfish, Procambarus clarkii

open access: yesImpulse: The Premier Undergraduate Neuroscience Journal, 2022
Barium ions block potassium leak channels that contribute to the resting membrane potential in most animal cells (Armstrong and Taylor, 1980). Here we examine the impact of barium on the resting membrane potential of crayfish superficial flexor muscles ...

Comparação sérica e sangüínea do cálcio ionizado, sódio, potássio e cloreto em felinos pelo método eletrodo íon seletivo Serum and blood comparison of ionized calcium, sodium, potassium and chloride in cats, by ion-selective electrode method

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2007
Values of sodium, ionized calcium, potassium and chloride obtained by ion-selective electrode method, from serum and blood samples of healthy cats, were compared. Serum ionized calcium value was lower (5.2mg/dl) than blood ionized calcium (5.4mg/dl), and

NKCC1: A key regulator of glioblastoma progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma (GBM) progression is driven by disrupted chloride cotransporter homeostasis. NKCC1 is highly expressed in stem‐like, astrocytic, and progenitor cells, correlating with earlier recurrence, while overall survival remains unaffected. NKCC1 serves as a prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target, linking chloride transporter imbalance ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
