Artificial Egg Activation Using Calcium Ionophore [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Reproductive Medicine, 2021
AbstractArtificial oocyte activation, most commonly using calcium ionophore, is a treatment add-on utilized to avoid recurrence of abnormally low or total failed fertilization following in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection. It aims to modify defective physiological processes, specifically calcium-mediated cell signaling that are ...

Usnic acid as calcium ionophore and mast cells stimulator

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2020
Usnic acid (UA), a secondary lichen metabolite, has long been popular as one of natural fat-burning dietary supplements. Similar to 2,4-dinitrophenol, the weight-loss effect of UA is assumed to be associated with its protonophoric uncoupling activity.

Activation of Sea-Urchin Eggs by a Calcium Ionophore [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1974
Micromolar amounts of the divalent ionophore A23187 can activate echinoderm eggs. The activations by ionophore A23187 were examined in terms of membrane elevation, the program of membrane conductance changes, the respiratory burst, and the increases in protein and DNA synthesis which normally accompany activation by sperm.

Effect of heparin, caffeine and calcium ionophore A23187 on in vitro induction of the acrosome reaction of fresh ram spermatozoa [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, 2016
Objective: To determine the effect of different concentrations of heparin, caffeine or calcium ionophore and incubation time on motility, hyperactivity (HA) and acrosome reaction (AR) of ram sperm in vitro.

Transient exposure to calcium ionophore enables in vitro fertilization in sterile mouse models. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2016
Mammalian sperm acquire fertilizing capacity in the female tract in a process called capacitation. At the molecular level, capacitation requires protein kinase A activation, changes in membrane potential and an increase in intracellular calcium ...

Nimodipine promotes neurite outgrowth and protects against neurotoxicity in PC12 cells [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2021
Objective(s): Nimodipine is an L-type voltage-dependent calcium channel (VDCC) antagonist. However, the actions of nimodipine except calcium blocking are poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the effect of nimodipine on neurite outgrowth and

Effect of calcium ionophore A23187 on the sperm in intracytoplasmic sperm injection. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bioscience and Applied Research, 2016
The present study evaluated the effect of calcium ionophore A23187 on sperm in intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles using sperm from different sources.

Mitogenic Properties of a Calcium Ionophore, A23187 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1974
A23187 is a carboxylic antibiotic that selectively transfers calcium, magnesium, and other divalent cations across biologic membranes. This ionophore was found to produce morphologic blast transformation, DNA synthesis, and mitosis in human lymphocytes. Several hours of ionophore-cell contact were necessary to produce optimal mitogenesis.

PROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF CALCIUM ANTAGONIST (NITRENDIPINE) ON CALCIUM IONOPHORE A23187-INDUCED LIVER CELL INJURY [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Calcium ionophore A23187-induced liver damage was studied in perfused rat liver and isolated hepatocytes. Two groups of calcium antagonists, dihydropyridine-type and nondihydropyridine-type, were examined for their protective effects on A23187-induced ...
