Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

A cyclic effect of cAMP and calcium signaling contributes to jujube growth and development

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2023
3′,5′-Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) is an important metabolite that is specifically enriched in jujube. However, the effect of cAMP on jujube cellular responses has not been comprehensively studied.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Evaluation of Calcium Regulating Roles of Guttation and Calcium Oxalate Crystals in Leaf Blades and Petioles of HydroponicallyGrown Eddo

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2015
We investigated the involvement of guttation and calcium oxalate crystals in the maintenance of calcium homeostasis in leaf blades and petioles of eddo in hydroponic solution containing calcium at different concentrations.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Development of the Guidance Software of Precise Calcium Treatment and Its Application in Special Steel Production

open access: yesTeshugang, 2023
In response to the difficulties of low calcium yield and unstable effect in the calcium treatment process of molten steel, a precise calcium treatment model was established, and a guidance software of precise calcium treatment was developed and applied ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Lithium induced hypercalcemia: an expert opinion and management algorithm

open access: yesInternational Journal of Bipolar Disorders, 2022
Background Lithium is the gold standard prophylactic treatment for bipolar disorder. Most clinical practice guidelines recommend regular calcium assessments as part of monitoring lithium treatment, but easy-to-implement specific management strategies in ...
