Diffraction and geometrical optical transfer functions: calculation time comparison [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In a recent paper, we compared the diffraction and geometrical optical transfer functions (OTFs) of an optical imaging system, and showed that the GOTF approximates the DOTF within 10% when a primary aberration is about two waves or larger [Appl.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

DEVICE FOR CAUTERY OF BLEEDING USING A SALT WITH LOW CRYOHYDRATE DISSOLUTION TEMPERATURE

open access: yesВестник Дагестанского государственного технического университета: Технические науки, 2018
Objectives The aim of the study is to consider the design of a device for the cautery of bleeding by the method of local freezing of the blood flow zone performed using a salt with a low cryohydrate dissolution temperature, as well as to model heat ...

Improved power losses calculation model for air core reactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Air core reactors (ACR) have been widely used in power systems in several different applications like harmonic filters, thyristor-controlled reactors (TCR) for static var compensators (SVC), mechanically switched reactors (MSR) for shunt compensation ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The law of cyclic evolution of the world, the reality and beingness according to the sign-images on the Malta plate, made from mammoth ivory in the times of Paleolithic Age

open access: yesВестник археологии, антропологии и этнографии, 2016
The article examines some sign-images such as a pin-point spiral of the Malta Plate using a system analysis approach. This Plate is the unique archeological artifact and was made of mammoth ivory in the times of the Paleolithic age, in an ancient human ...

Calculation of pressure fields from arbitrarily shaped, apodized, and excited ultrasound transducers

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1992
A method for simulation of pulsed pressure fields from arbitrarily shaped, apodized and excited ultrasound transducers is suggested. It relies on the Tupholme-Stepanishen method for calculating pulsed pressure fields, and can also handle the continuous ...

Comparison Of Quasi-Steady State And Dynamic Simulation Approaches For The Calculation Of Building Energy Needs: Thermal Losses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
One of the aims of the European Directive 2010/31/EU (formerly 2002/91/EC) is to reduce the energy consumption of buildings introducing an energy labeling protocol which is expected to capture the attention and reorient the market, sustaining the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
