Pharmacokinetics of Long‐Acting Ampicillin and Its Impact on the Gut Microbiome and Resistome in Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta)

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Injectable antimicrobials with documented prolonged dosing intervals (> 48 h) for use in rhesus macaques are sparse. The objective of our study was to assess the pharmacokinetics, urine excretion, and effects on gut microbiome and resistome of intramuscular administered long‐acting formulation of ampicillin (Albipen LA) in macaques.

An organic zinc-chelating-peptide GQ-Zn supplementation ameliorates diarrhea through regulate gut microbiota and metabolites in pre-weaning Holstein calves

open access: yesAnimal Nutriomics
Newborn calf diarrhea has led to widespread overuse of antibiotics. Therefore, it is crucial to find effective solutions for calf diarrhea. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of the synthetic organic zinc-chelating-peptide glycine-glutamine ...

Mandarin Relative Clause Production by Second Language Learners: Subject–Object Asymmetry and Individual Differences

open access: yesLanguage Learning, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated which type of Mandarin Chinese relative clause (RC)—subject‐extracted relative clause (SRC) or object‐extracted relative clause (ORC)—imposes greater processing demands on second language (L2) learners’ production. Sixty‐two native (L1) Mandarin speakers and 72 L1 Korean learners of Mandarin participated in a picture ...

Yigong San Extract Modulates Metabolism, Antioxidant Status, and Immune Function to Improve Health in Diarrheic Calves

open access: yesMetabolites
Background/Objectives: Calf diarrhea is a serious health problem in dairy farming, which seriously affects their production performance in adulthood. Diarrhea in calves is usually treated with antibiotics, which may lead to issues of antibiotic residue ...

Naturally Occurring CodY Variants Alter Ligand Binding, DNA Target Affinity, and Virulence in Clostridioides difficile

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Single amino acid substitutions in the global regulator CodY can alter nutrient sensing and virulence regulation in Clostridioides difficile. We show that the CodY(Y146N) and CodY(V58A) variants display altered ligand binding and reduced promoter binding, leading to derepression of toxin regulatory pathways and increased virulence in vivo.

Comparative efficacy and studies of mode of action of minerals from diatoms against three species of filth flies

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Mortality for diatomaceous earth was observed as early as 2 h after exposure with 50% and 90% mortality at 3.5 and 4.6 h (LT50 and LT90, respectively) for Musca domestica. The LT50 and LT90 increased when the size of the fly species increased (M. domestica to Cochliomyia macellaria to Sarcophaga bullata) and increased for all three from 50 to 70 ...

Blood flow restriction: The acute effects of body tilting and reduced gravity analogues on limb occlusion pressure

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Blood flow restriction (BFR) has been identified as a potential countermeasure to mitigate physiological deconditioning during spaceflight. Guidelines recommend that tourniquet pressure be prescribed relative to limb occlusion pressure (LOP); however, it is unclear whether body tilting or reduced gravity analogues influence LOP.

Molecular and Immunological Evaluation of Some Bacteria Causing Calf Diarrhea

open access: yes, 2023
One issue that intensive farming has to deal with is neonatal calf diarrhea, and probiotics are seen to be a viable solution to improve the health of calves. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of short-term administration of an antibiotic or
